Lady Cafe Au Lait Chases Sixth Straight In Mares Series

Lady Cafe Au Lait

Lady Cafe Au Lait will look to keep her Island roll going on Thursday, June 25 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as she shoots for a repeat in the Aged Pacing Mares Series.

She will put her five-race win streak on the line in the $9,000 second division of the second leg in the finale of the 13-dash presentation, which starts at 6 p.m.

Lady Cafe Au Lait, three-for-three on P.E.I., is the morning-line favourite from post six with Marc Campbell in the bike for trainer Earl Watts and owners Matt and David Burke of Stratford, P.E.I. and Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I. The daughter of Big Jim-Lady Latte won her last two races in Ontario before shipping to the Island and is seven-for-10 this year. She won the opening leg of the series on June 13 in 1:55.1. Her main rivals on Thursday include Windemere Saddy (Ken Murphy, 3-1) from post four and Sugar Bowl (Brady Sweet, 7-2) with post one.

The Post Time Picks likes Lady Cafe Au Lait on top.

“Lady Cafe Au Lait has reeled off three straight victories since arriving on P.E.I. and has shown that she’s versatile, so I’m riding along with the hot horse tonight. Marc could power drive her to the front or take back and flush some live cover, and either trip could land her in the winner’s circle.”

The other $9,000 Aged Pacing Mares Series event lines up in Race 11 with Trumps Girl the 5-2 top morning-line choice from post six for driver Marc Campbell, trainer David O’Brien and owner Tommy Collings of Mount Stewart, P.E.I. Rosetown Mary (3-1) has post eight with Corey MacPherson aboard while More Than A Woman (7-2) is a major player from post two with Jason Hughes in the bike.

The $8,000 Island Oceans Trot Series hits the track in Race 10 with Buckhead Ridge receiving 5-2 top billing from post three for driver Marc Campbell, trainer Landon Campbell and owner Brady Doyle of Stratford. Track-record holder Flemsteen (3-1) has post five with Murphy in the bike, and Fight Song (7-2) leaves from post six for Hughes following an Open win last week.

The P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series Grassroots divisions are carded as Races 9 and 12 and carry $6,000 purses. Sensational Gal gets 5-2 top billing in the first division from post four with Gilles Barrieau driving for trainer Nicholas Oakes and owner JD Racing Inc. of Cornwall, P.E.I. Moon Bound is the 5-2 morning-line chalk in the second split from post six with Murphy in the bike for trainer Jennifer Doyle and owners Nathaniel Smith of Sidney, Maine and Greg Kirby of Holden, Maine.

The program opens with the $6,750 Allstar Cresting Trot Series. Big Rig gets the top morning-line call at 5-2 from post two with trainer Mike McGuigan in the bike for owners Owen McGuigan of Pleasant Grove, P.E.I. and Jamie Whalen Jr. of Vernon River, P.E.I. Second choice West River Karuna (3-1) has post eight with Ken MacDonald driving while Hallysgurl (7-2) leaves from post five with Barrieau aboard.
