Team Cullen Takes Both Georgian Features
The mother-son team of trainer Jodie Cullen and driver Travis Cullen swept the optional-claiming features, each carrying a purse of $10,000, at Georgian Downs on Tuesday, June 23 with a pair of strong performances.
In the top trot, 2025 Earl Rowe Memorial winner Nasey rolled away to a three-length score on the back of a big third-quarter push. Away from post two, the gelding left in a line with his two adjacent rivals but quickly dropped back to third while Malone flew forward for Paul MacKenzie to take command. Nasey was gapped off in third through the quarter in :28.4 and half in :57.3 but caught the helmet of Muscle Fashion (Ondrej Gois) and slingshotted to the outside on the backstretch. Malone was unable to parry the 1-9 favourite, who sprinted past him on the final turn and glided home under wraps to a 1:56.1 victory. Muscle Fashion finished second, with Daffy Hanover (Samuel Fillion) third.
Nasey, who upset at 61-1 in the Earl Rowe last year, made his first start at Georgian since that triumph to pick up his first win of 2026 in three tries. The seven-year-old son of Pilgrims Chuckie-Youre So Fine is owned by A1stable of Dundas, Ont. He is now 34-for-169 lifetime with $519,671 in earnings. Win bets returned $2.20.
Rbstenacious T made his first career visit to Georgian a winning one as he rallied from seventh at the half to take the pacing feature. Travis Cullen settled him in seventh from post six behind a cascade of early lead changes, with Duck Dynasty (Stephane Pouliot) gaining control past the quarter in :28 before relinquishing the lead to Chef (Brett MacDonald) in front of the stands. As that one rolled to the top, the backfield started underway, with Harborlite Ambrose (Austin Sorrie) leading Wry (Guy Gagnon) and Rbstenacious T off the cones on the way to the half in :56.2.
He left his outer-flow comrades behind on the backstretch and stretched to a three-length lead at three-quarters in 1:25, but that cushion dwindled on the final turn as Rbstenacious T circled his cover and tore after the new leader. Loaded with pace at the top of the lane, Rbstenacious T blew past Harborlite Ambrose and powered to a 4-1/4-length victory in 1:53. Chicken N Dice (Samuel Fillion) came from last entering the backstretch to be third behind Harborlite Ambrose.
Rbstenacious T added a ninth tally to his four-year-old campaign in his 21st start of the year for owners Ron and Travis Cullen of Dundas and Deborah McLeod of Edmonton, Alta. The son of Freaky Feet Pete-Aunt Marlene is a 14-time winner from 40 career outings and has earned $140,862. He paid $2.30 to win.
