Flag Party Threepeats In Tioga Open Pace
Flag Party held onto his Tioga Downs Open crown as he scored his third straight victory in the Open Pace with another lifetime-best performance on Sunday, June 21.
He stormed to the front for Joe Chindano Jr. in the $20,423 feature and rattled off fractions of :26.3, :54.4 and 1:22. Flag Party widened his lead as they turned for home and sailed to a 2-1/4-length victory in 1:50. Second-place finisher Rockstar Artist (Colin Kelly) closed to take second, followed by Mirragon A (Jim Pantaleano).
Flag Party has won four of his last five starts and is five-for-13 this year for trainer Jennina Shaw. The five-year-old son of Stag Party-Sassafras Girl is owned by Jeffery Savidge, Michael DeSaye, Richard DiMaio and Chindano. He has collected 19 wins and $196,549 in earnings from 64 career attempts. The win payout was $3.18.
Brave Warrior, a 2025 New York County Fair champion, kept his winning streak intact as he kicked off his sophomore campaign in an $11,972 conditioned event. The Benny Eggers-trained gelding slid in behind Choice Is Mine (Greg Merton), followed that one through :27.4, :57.4 and 1:25 panels, and outpaced him home to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:55. I No Like You (Mike Merton) was third.
Tom Merton piloted the winning son of Courtly Choice-Amazing Control for owners Eggers and Mary Abbot. Brave Warrior won all eight New York Sire Stakes County Fair starts last year, including the series final, and scored in his second pari-mutuel attempt in September. That nine-race win streak carried into Sunday's score, which upped his record to 10-for-11 and his earnings to $45,279. He returned $4.30 to win.
Braxten Boyd scored five victories on the 14-race program, his third five-win performance over the last five cards at Tioga. He got his wins with Twin B Manhunt ($4.28), Livonjaxandqueens ($3.66), American Pastime ($2.10), Aces Or Bettor ($4.30) and Caviart Skipper ($16.68). Boyd moved into a tie for the lead in the drivers' standings with Jim Pantalano, with both drivers on 37 wins.
Colin Kelly and Tom Merton had driving hat tricks.
Live racing continues at Tioga Downs on Friday, June 26 with first post set for 6:15 p.m.
