Mercedes Motors To Third Straight Preferred Win

Mercedes winning at Century Downs

Brandon Campbell was loaded with horsepower turning for home and drove Mercedes through the passing lane to catch the pacesetter in the $14,500 Preferred Handicap on Sunday, June 21 at Century Downs.

Outlaw Game On had his game face on leaving from post four to establish the lead for driver Mike Hennessy while the favoured Brandon Campbell trainee Mercedes motored off the gate from his assigned outside post to land a pocket trip. Those two remained one-two through first-half fractions of :28.1 and :56.3 with Midnight Mover (Drew Campbell) moving into contention on the outside approaching three-quarters in 1:26. Revving up the inside off the final turn, Mercedes powered ahead of Outlaw Game On in the stretch to win his third straight by a neck in 1:55.1 while Midnight Mover finished 2-1/2 lengths back in third.

Mercedes picked up his sixth Preferred victory this year from nine outings, pushing his seasonal earnings over $50,000 and lifetime bankroll past $200,000 for owner Raymond Henry of Calgary, Alta. Top three in 78 per cent of his 51 career starts, the six-year-old son of All Bets Off-Skade boasts 27 victories.

Mercedes paid $2.50 to win as the 1-5 favourite.
