Goo Goo Won Prevails In Hoosier Distaff Open
Goo Goo Won won a four-horse battle down the stretch to capture the $30,986 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace at Hoosier Park on Saturday, June 20.
Goo Goo Won struck first from post four for Kyle Wilfong but was passed by Rollin Rosie (Trace Tetrick) entering the first turn and enjoyed a pocket ride through the quarter in :26.4 and half in :55.1. Favoured Canttouchthese (John De Long), seeking her third consecutive Open win, was the first to move as she tipped from fifth, then flushed out Wild Rosa (Brandon Bates) from third. Rollin Rosie continued to lead at the three-quarters in 1:23.1 with Goo Goo Won and Wild Rosa in pursuit off the final turn.
With the field fanning out down the stretch, Canttouchthese and Wild Rosa kept their rallies going to move within striking distance while Goo Goo Won chipped away at Rollin Rosie. Rollin Rosie gave way to Goo Goo Won in deep-stretch, and Goo Goo Won reached the line in time to survive the charges of Wild Rosa and Canttouchthese. She scored in 1:50.2 with a quarter-length margin over Wild Rosa, with Canttouchthese third by a half-length.
Goo Goo Won, a seven-year-old daughter of Fred And Ginger-Malinka, is trained by Ron Burke for Judith Taylor. She added her fifth win of the season in 14 starts, increasing her lifetime earnings to $582,725 and her lifetime record to 28-for-118. She paid $13.40 to win.
