Income Approach Goes From Last To First At Truro

Income Approach winning at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Income Approach, driven by Keith Legge, took an off-the-pace approach early on as a wicked speed duel developed up front in Truro Raceway's Winners Over Handicap Pace but he later swooped the group in a career-best performance on Friday, June 19.

A back-to-back winner in Truro's top class, American Risk (Ryder Matthews Rennison) attempted a crossover move off the gate from his assigned outside six-post but was hung three-wide to three-eighths with Fifth Estate (Ernie Laffin) pressing on at the inside and Woodmere Ideal Art (Robert Laffin) in between with a short lead before taking a tuck.

The sizzling opening quarter of :26.4 eventually paid it's toll on the early leaders. American Risk remained parked past the half in :55.2 with Fifth Estate still leading the way until Nova Scotia Strong (Darren Crowe) came rushing up from behind. He headed Fifth Estate on top past the 1:25.3 three-quarters mark and drew clear into the turn, but Income Approach picked up the chase around the final bend off a ground-saving, trailing trip as he circled four-wide and took off to win by three lengths in a new lifetime mark of 1:55.3. Nova Scotia Strong settled for second while Like A Glove (Noah Whebby) took third as the early leaders trailed by more than 10 lengths.

Trained and owned by Rachael MacDonald of Black Point, N.S., Income Approach earned his first win of the year after top three finishes in his first four starts in the $2,500 Winners Over. The four-year-old State Treasurer-Bold Amoretto gelding now has 10 career wins from 39 races and more than $55,000 in earnings.

The win payout was $3.80 with Income Approach sent off as the bettors' choice.
