Windemere Skye Takes Streak To Northside Saturday
The undefeated Atlantic Breeders Crown champion Windemere Skye headlines this Saturday's harness racing action at Northside Downs as the three-year-old pacing fillies head to the North Sydney, N.S. half-mile oval for the second leg of the Atlantic Sires Stakes.
A pair of compact "A" divisions comprise the second leg, with 10 fillies split equally and each group racing for a purse of $16,300 during the 1 p.m. (ADT) program.
Trained by Earl Watts for Windemere Farms and Matt Burke, Windemere Skye will put her 14-race unbeaten streak on the line in the second division, which is carded as race 10. Regular reinsman Marc Campbell will drive the Somewhere Fancy-Howmac Missy filly in her third start this year following victories in the first Sires Stakes leg on May 24 at Summerside Raceway and a division of the Donnie & George Turner Memorial on June 12 at Truro Raceway, where she equalled the divisional track record. Windemere Skye is the 5-2 morning line choice from the inside post. Uptown Tonight (Myles Heffernan Sr.), coming off a victory of her own in the Turner Stakes, and Mattnificient Rose (Clare MacDonald) are among the upset contenders.
Campbell will also drive the morning line favourite at 5-2 in the first division in race six, picking up the drive on Alwaysinfullforce, a top three finisher behind Windemere Skye last time out for trainer Mike McGuigan and owner James Whalen. The Force N Fury-Toujours filly will start from post four, with other top contenders including Mysterious Ways (Ryan Campbell) in post three and Saulsbrook Desi (Keith Legge), who has rail control.
The fourth race is the lone "B" division going for a purse of $6,000.
Points earned in each Atlantic Sires Stakes "A" division go towards a coveted spot in the season-ending Atlantic Breeders Crown Championships, which will be held on Oct. 3-4, 2026 at Red Shores Charlottetown. The Atlantic Standardbred Breeders Association would like to thank the Title Sponsor, Prince Edward Island Horse Owners Association, for their support of the Atlantic Breeders Crown weekend.
Saturday's 15-race card at Northside will also include two $9,020 Phil Pinkney Memorial Stakes divisions for three-year-old pacing colts and the track's top-class overnight pacers in the $1,600 Winners Over Handicap.
