Update On Mofford
Driver Ardon Mofford, who was injured in an Inverness Raceway accident on Sunday, June 14, was released from hospital on Monday morning.
Mofford was injured in an accident that occurred in Sunday afternoon's sixth race on the first turn when the leading horse broke stride and went sideways off the rail, hooking his bike. Mofford was hit from behind by another horse, destroying his wheel and launching him from the bike.
Amazingly, Mofford managed to walk off after hitting the track hard, but the 59-year-old Florence, N.S. horseman did sustain serious injuries.
"Unfortunately, it turned out to be more serious than it first appeared," Mofford told Trot Insider on Monday morning. "The result was three broken ribs and a partially collapsed lung. I was released from the hospital today, but the doctors are estimating a recovery time of six to eight weeks before I can get back to racing.
"Needless to say, it’s a tough setback, but I’m grateful it wasn’t worse and I’ll focus on healing up and getting back as soon as possible."
The horse Mofford was driving, Kraken Seelster, ran loose after the incident and was caught after making several trips around the track while the race was called off.
Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Ardon Mofford a full and speedy recovery.
