One More Bet On The Money In Vernon Feature

One More Bet

One More Bet marched to the lead with a final-turn blast to take the featured $9,028 conditioned pace for fillies and mares at Vernon Downs on Saturday, June 13.

Making her first start out of the Jimmy Whittemore barn, One More Bet sat third while leader Better Double Flip (Leon Bailey) flew to the quarter in :26.1 and caught a breather to the half in :55.3. One More Bet, driven by her trainer, made her move heading to the final turn and eclipsed Better Double Flip at three-quarters in 1:24.3, clearing to the top shortly thereafter. As they reached the stretch, One More Bet found another gear and cruised home to win easily by three lengths in 1:52.4. Live N Thrive (Chris Long) flew home to take second over Better Double Flip.

One More Bet, a former Quebec champion, scored her first win in the United States. The daughter of All Bets Off-P L Kahluaa had a previous stint south of the border but returned to Canada without finding the winner's circle. After making two starts for Melissa Beckwith, she switched to trainer Whittemore for owner Joseph Pisarski. The five-year-old, now two-for-12 this season, took her 11th career victory in 68 starts. She paid $11.74 to win.

Jimmy Whittemore had a diving triple and a training double on the 13-race program. Leon Bailey drove two winners.
