Bluebird Kazoom INSS Score Heads Graber-Ross Five-Pack
Bluebird Kazoom flew to a dominant Indiana Sire Stakes (INSS) triumph to top a five-win evening for the team of driver Jordan Ross and trainer Henry Graber Jr. on Wednesday, June 10 at Harrah's Hoosier Park.
She flew out of post four in the $68,056 first split for sophomore trotting fillies and had her eyes set of the lead before Pure Love (Atlee Bender) surged from the outside to beat her to the rail and set an opening quarter of :27.4. Bluebird Kazoom then zoomed along the outside to take the lead from Pure Love, meeting the halfway point in :56.2 while on top of the five-horse group.
At the three-quarter pole in 1:25.4, Bluebird Kazoom began extending her lead over Pure Love, Expressive Gal (Kyle Wilfong) and Judge Lily (Kevin Lambright) while Make It Spicy (Trace Tetrick) went on a break. The cushion continued to expand as Bluebird Kazoom cruised to the wire uncontested in 1:54. Expressive Gal got up for second, 5-3/4 lengths back, while Pure Love settled for third.
Bluebird Kazoom is owned by Hillside Stables, Indiana Stables LLC, Hickory Hollow Stables and Michael Rosenthal. The three-year-old daughter of Swan For All-Stella Kemp is seven-for-eight in her debut season and has earned $85,963. She paid $3.20 to win.
This victory marked the second win of the eventual five for Ross and Graber. The pair took three of the first six races on the card, winning the opener with Ilikeitlikethat ($4, 1:53), the fourth with Bluebird Kazoom and sixth with Clear And Cool ($6.40, 1:56.2). The duo then teamed up to take down the late double with Rockin Mudslinger ($2.40, 1:50.4) and Ponda Bugatti ($2.10, 1:53.4).
Graber has 26 wins this season from 153 starts. He was victorious in all five races he entered on Wednesday, with only Sounder not finding the winner's circle as he finished fifth behind Ponda Bugatti. The seventh-year trainer has 305 career victories in 2,068 starts.
Ross is third in the Hoosier drivers' standings with 76 local victories this season. He is 80-for-543 overall on the year and 972-for-7,823 lifetime.
Reigning INSS champion For Dayze scored by a neck in the second split to go two-for-two in the series this season. Leaving from post three as the 7-5 second choice, For Dayze and driver John De Long sat fourth in the early stages. Dial Nine One One (Ross) was first to the front and led the six-horse field to the quarter in :28.3. Honeymoon (Trace Tetrick) then bounced to the outside and shuffled past Dial Nine One One to reach the halfway mark in front in :56.3.
For Dayze moved first-over into the last turn and went on the march while Honeymoon looked to get separation from the rest, racing three lengths clear to three-quarters in 1:24.4. For Dayze continued her charge into third and glided past Dial Nine One One in the stretch with her sights set on Honeymoon. Nearing the wire, For Dayze closed relentlessly and nailed Honeymoon to prevail in a career-best 1:53.1. Dial Nine One One held onto third.
For Dayze is trained by Roger Welch for owners William De Long and Patrick De Long. The daughter of Swan For All-Southwind Storm has won her first two INSS preliminaries this year while pushing her career bankroll to $433,258 and her record to eight-for-13. For Dayze paid $4.80 to win.
