Buckhead Ridge Meets Flemsteen In CDP Return

Buckhead Ridge

Buckhead Ridge and Flemsteen will have their win streaks clash on Thursday evening, June 11 in the featured Open Trot at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval has a 12-dash presentation starting at 6 p.m. (ADT), with the $5,000 Open Trot lining up in race eight.

Buckhead Ridge is the 5-2 morning line favourite from the outside post six with Marc Campbell in the driver's seat for trainer Landon Campbell and owner Brady Doyle of Stratford, P.E.I. After leading all trotters for wins in Canada last year with 18 successful starts, the six-year-old gelded son of Nuncio was a front-end winner in his first two Open starts of the season in January at Charlottetown Driving Park and will return from the layoff on Thursday.

Prince Edward Island newcomer Flemsteen has post four with Ken Murphy driving in the trotter's first start for trainer Jennifer Doyle. The eight-year-old gelded son of Explosive Matter won his last two starts at Ohio's Northfield Park in April, including an Open Handicap, and will now compete for the ownership of Max Webster Stable of Inverness, N.S., Jeffrey Skinner of Hammonds Plains, N.S., Derrill Murphy of Lethbridge, Alta., and Clair Murphy of Millvale, P.E.I.

The field also includes Fight Song in post five with Jason Hughes driving for trainer Ashley Gamester; Rocket Blast in post three with his trainer, Corey MacPherson, in the bike; Whole Nother from post two with Colin Sheppard aboard for trainer Morgan Sheppard; and another Doyle trainee, New Legacy, from post one with Gilles Barrieau in the driver's seat.

The "Post Time Picks" has selected Buckhead Ridge on top: “Buckhead Ridge won 18 of his 27 starts last year and closed out his winter campaign with back-to-back wins. He looked sharp in his qualifier where he closed in 28 seconds to win, which tells me he's ready to roll. He has the outside post but he's versatile so I'm betting he picks up right where he left off. Top call.”

Race five is the Seniors Engagement Committee City Of Charlottetown Pace for a $2,500 purse with Outrageous Song the 5-2 morning line favourite from post one for Barrieau and trainer Jackie Matheson. The eight-year-old daughter of Sportswriter was third in this class last week and will look to use rail control to her advantage.
