Freshman Fillies Debut In Mohawk Baby Races

Heading to a start at the qualifiers at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Baby races resumed for the second week at Woodbine Mohawk Park with two-year-old fillies filling a 12-race qualifying session during a hot morning on Thursday, June 11.

Im Sweet On Lou was the fastest of the pacing fillies as she capped off the morning's baby races with a 1:57.2 wire-to-wire victory in her qualifying debut for trainer Kyle Fellows. Doug McNair, who won the last three qualifiers of the day, guided the Sweet Lou filly through early fractions of :31.1 and 1:01.1 before stepping it up to three-quarters in 1:29.4 and sprinting home free by 2-1/2 lengths with a :27.3 closing kick. A pair of Cattlewash fillies, Twin B Copacabana (Mark MacDonald) and Cupcakesontuesday (Jonathan Drury), followed in second and third, respectively.

Bred by Mervin Wengerd of Horse Cave, Kentucky, Im Sweet On Lou sold for $36,111 at the 2025 Lexington Select Sale. The filly is the fourth foal out of the 100 per cent producing Somebeachsomewhere mare Beach Work. Im Sweet On Lou is owned by Yolanda Fellows of Rockwood, Ont., and Blair Corbeil of Leduc, Alta.

Trevor Henry drove four winners including the fastest trotting filly as the Tactical Landing daughter Tic Tac Fashion sprinted home in :28.3 off a three-hole trip mid-session to win the day's sixth baby race in 2:01.4 for trainer Rick Zeron. The Greenshoe filly Tymal Rockstar (Doug McNair) was beaten three-quarters of a length after leading through panels of :31.1, 1:02.3 and 1:32.3 in her debut from the Gregg McNair stable. Northernlights Glo (James MacDonald) closed well to edge out pocket-sitter The Wonderful Girl (Eddie Green) for third.

Bred by Pennsylvania's Fashion Farms, Tic Tac Fashion was purchased for just $18,310 as a yearling from the 2025 Standardbred Horse Sale by Rick Zeron Stables of Oakville, Ont., Johnny Marvento of Montreal, Que., and James Walker of Port Perry, Ont. The filly is out of the Father Patrick mare Impressive Fashion and her second dam is Impressive Kemp, a Breeders Crown champion and half sibling to stallion Trixton.

Baby races continue on Friday morning at Mohawk with two-year-old colts in action.
