Defending Champs Headline Michigan Fair Opener
All four of last year's Michigan Sire Stakes two-year-old champions will be in action Tuesday (June 9) as the 2026 Michigan fair harness racing circuit kicks off with an 11-race Michigan-Sired Colt Stakes program at the Croswell fairgrounds, in Sanilac County, just north of Port Huron.
Believeincaptain, who earned $143,298 in his perfect nine-for-nine rookie season, returns to Michigan after taking a mark of 1:53.3 in one of his three sophomore starts at The Meadows, near Pittsburgh. The Captain Victorious-Believeincarrie colt has drawn post 3 in the eight-horse field to contest the lone $12,400 USD Colt Stakes event for three-year-old male pacers, which is carded as the finale. Kody Massey is listed to drive Believeincaptain for trainer Allen Sisco, who shares ownership with Oldford Racing.
Trainer/driver LeWayne Miller has both returning filly champions in trotter Westwinds Yahtzee and Lady Victorious.
Westwinds Yahtzee, who finished third in the Grade 1 Jim Doherty Memorial at Harrah's Hoosier Park after her 7-length romp in the Michigan Sire Stakes final last summer, will start from the pole against six rivals in the $12,350 USD Colt Stakes event for three-year-old trotting fillies (race 8). The Celebrity Pegasus-Keep The Cash filly earned $187,673 last season while competing as a homebred for Samuel Eicher.
Lady Victorious headlines the $12,300 USD sophomore filly pace (race 10) after winning seven of nine races and earning $119,616 as a rookie. Her signature win coming in the Michigan Sire Stakes final, which she won in 1:56.4 by 19-3/4 lengths. The Captain Victorious-Arts Meme filly races for Rockylanes and will start from post 2 in the six-horse field.
Rounding out the quartet of returning Michigan champions is ECS Racing LLC homebred Powerful Ending, who drew the outside post 5 in the $12,250 USD sophomore male trot (race 9). A five-time winner last year with $98,863 in the bank, the Musical Rhythm-Powerful Mission gelding will be driven by John Moody for trainer Kevin St. Charles.
First post for Tuesday's program is 5 p.m. (EDT); Wednesday's (June 10) 19-race Green Division card is slated to begin at 3 p.m. (EDT).
The Michigan fair circuit will feature racing at 13 locations throughout the state from June through September, and all races will be broadcast live via the Michigan Harness Horsemen's Association YouTube page.
