Mappos Lion Extends Win Streak At Inverness
Mappos Lion extended his win streak dating back to last July with a dominant performance in the Winners Overs Pace at Inverness Raceway on Sunday, June, 7.
After starting this season with a trio of wins at Northside Downs, Mappos Lion headed to Inverness for his next conquest with Walter Walker picking up the live catch-drive and sending the 1-5 favourite down the road from his assigned outside post in the afternoon's $2,000 featured finale. Mappos Lion worked his way to the lead just before the quarter pole and clocked fractions of :29, :59.1 and 1:29.4 during his 1:58 score over the "good" track. In a three-way race for place, Talk Some Smack (Keigan Madden) finished 4-1/2 lengths behind in second after overtaking the pocket-sitting Whats Up Doc (Redmond Doucet), who held on for third just ahead of Shir Gain (Rodney Gillis).
The streaking nine-year-old pacer, whose current run of success includes seven victories across Northside, Inverness and Charlottetown Driving Park, has won a total of 34 races lifetime while earning more than $320,000 for owners Hailee Currie of Rocky Point, P.E.I. and breeder Carol Campbell of Baddeck, N.S. The homebred Sunshine Beach-Pacific Playmate gelding is trained by Ken Collins in Nova Scotia and has been nearly perfect with nine wins and one second-place finish in 10 starts since his return to the East Coast in 2025 after lowering his lifetime mark to 1:49.2 while competing in Ontario at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
