Prospects Produce In Hanover's 2026 Opener
Hanover Raceway kicked off its 2026 season of harness racing on Saturday, June 6, headlined by a pair of $8,000 Prospect Series divisions for three-year-old male pacers.
Major Money and driver Jason Ryan sat the pocket as slight 3-5 favourite Kapueno (Paul MacKenzie) cut out fractions of :28.3, :59.3 and 1:30.1. Ryan found room at the head of the lane to angle Major Money out of the pocket, and the sophomore responded with a solid late kick to best Kapueno by half a length with the mile timed in 1:58.2. Writeline (Mike Horner) rounded out the top trio.
Nick Gallucci trains Major Money, a homebred of Millar Farms of Stouffville, Ont. a four-time winner as a freshman, Major Money (Cattlewash - Our Hot Majorette) notched his first win as a three-year-old in his fourth attempt. The victory lifted his lifetime earnings to $59,180. He returned $3.80 to win as Hanover's first winning horse of the season.
A Prospect Series winner at Hanover last year, Allstar Cords rebounded from an off-the-board finish in his last start — his first finish out of the top two in his career. That effort likely scared off some of the wagering public, as he was sent off as the third choice in a group of five.
After fronting the field through fractions of :28, :58.2 and 1:27.1 for driver Steve Byron, Allstar Cords found another gear in that last quarter and decimated his four foes to win by more than nine lengths in 1:57.4. Starbright Dancer (Brady Galliers) was best of the rest in second with favoured Lunar Sport (Austin Sorrie) finishing with broken equipment in third.
A son of Century Farroh - Riot Grrl, Allstar Cords (pictured above) now boasts a 7-4-0 summary from 12 career appearances with a bankroll at $42,375 for owner Antonio Tangreda of Kettleby, Ont. Dale Heard trains the gelding, who returned $6.70 to win.
