Miss Jum Jabber, Wrenn & Burke Shine At The Meadows

Miss Jum Jabber

The twilight card at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows on Friday, June 5 featured the state’s top sophomore pacing fillies as the centre of attention. Three $49,793 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes divisions, known as the Adios Betty, received top billing with four $27,778 Pennsylvania Stallion Series divisions on the undercard.

In the first PaSS division, driver Andrew McCarthy waited until just before the quarter pole before moving 1-9 favourite Miss Jum Jabber and her six-race win streak to the lead through an opening panel of :28.1. The pace never slowed from there, with fractions of :56.2 at the half and a :26.3 backside sprint to the 1:23 three-quarters. Miss Jum Jabber still needed a :27 final quarter to hold off the persistent Bahama Momma (Dave Palone) for a lifetime-best 1:50 victory and her seventh consecutive win. Gonebutnotforgottn (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.) finished third.

The mile by Miss Jum Jabber ($2.10; pictured) was the fastest of the three divisions. The daughter of Bettors Wish-Treacherous Reign is trained and owned by Brett Pelling as Pelling Racing LLC of Cream Ridge, N.J. The win lifted her lifetime bankroll to $128,945.

A compact field of five in the second PaSS division provided the closest, as just a half-length separated the first four finishers. At the wire, it was Hope Hill ($4.40) and Mike Wilder using the Lightning Lane to win their division in 1:51.1. Wilder put the Papi Rob Hanover-Ruth Hill filly in position in the first turn to follow betting favourite Bettor Be A Star (Wrenn). After a two-hole trip and a :27.1 closing kick, Hope Hill held off Caviart Daisy (Brady Brown) by a head to record a new lifetime mark. Bettor Be A Star stayed for third.

Now a six-time winner with nearly $195,000 in earnings, Hope Hill is owned by Tom Hill and trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr.

The third division of the Adios Betty Sire Stakes went to Im A Lou Lou and Ronnie Wrenn Jr., coast-to-coast winners in 1:50.1. Leaving from post four, Wrenn sent the Sweet Lou-Benear filly through fractions of :27, :55.4 and 1:22.3 before pacing home in :27.3 to hold off a game Makemblush Hanover (Palone) by three parts of a length. Fitness First (Ridge Warren) completed the triactor ticket.

Ron Burke trains Im A Lou Lou ($5.60) for the ownership combination of Burke Racing Stable LLC of Fredericktown, Pa., Knox Services Inc. of Mt Vernon, Oh., Larry Karr of Boca Raton, Fl. and Phil Collura of Mountain Top, Pa.

Driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. and trainer Ron Burke teamed up to take two of the four $27,778 Pennsylvania Stallion Series divisions, with Joyful Hanover ($7.80), who shaved a tick off her lifetime mark with a 1:51.3 winning effort, and Real Fast ($4.20), who matched her mark taken last month in a leg at Harrah's Philadelphia. Tall Dark Tequila ($4.40) was also a repeat winner in this year's Stallion Series, taking a division in a career-best clocking of 1:51.4 with Dave Palone driving for trainer Hunter Oakes. The lightly-raced Sicerto ($3.20) equalled her lifetime mark of 1:52 in back-to-back weeks in rein to Andrew McCarthy while debuting from the Noel Daley barn.

Friday’s card was dominated by Wrenn and Burke, with the driver notching seven victories from the 11 races and five of those winners from the Burke Brigade. One of those victories came in the $26,389 Open courtesy Fallout ($3.80), a winner in a lifetime best 1:48.3.

Hollywood Casino at The Meadows resumes racing Saturday, June 6, with a first-race post time of 12:45 p.m.
