Sophomore Fillies Clash In Buckeye Stallion Series
Eldorado Scioto Downs held five $27,778 divisions of the Buckeye Stallion Series (BSS) for three-year-old filly trotters on Thursday, June 4.
Guardian Angel As was the only sire who scored a double as his daughters Mockingbird As and Guardian Doll took the final two splits.
Mockingbird As ($6) was the first Guardian Angel As progeny to win, stopping the clock in 1:57 for owner/trainer and co-breeder Anette Lorentzon. Marvin Luna guided the 2-1 second choice, who is out of the Taurus Dream mare Savanah Dream. The filly won by a length over Kira (Tyler Smith), with Dream Of Charlotte (Brett Miller) third. She now has two wins in 10 lifetime starts and $72,209 in earnings.
In the final BSS contest, Guardian Doll ($3.40) won in 1:55.2 for trainer Deborah Swartz, driver Ronnie Gillespie and owners Jeff Fought Racing, Adam Friedland and Brian Carsey. Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, the win was the filly’s third win in 12 lifetime starts, and she has now earned $91,821. Guardian Doll won by 3-1/2 lengths over Chasingstardust As (Chris Page). Dublins Delilah (Tyler Smith) finished third.
Earlier in the card, No Approval Needed ($4) and Brett Miller took the first division in 1:54.3. Sent off as the even-money favourite, the Uncle Peter filly out of the Dejarmbro mare Sealedwithapproval won by a quarter-length over Dublins Breanna (Braiden Rhoades), with Charlotte Elise (Chris Lems) third. The Ryan Stahl trainee now has seven lifetime wins in 15 starts and $56,713 earned for owners Stahl, Stephen Reis and Matt Lambert.
The In Range-She Nuit filly Shes In and Tyler Smith took the second division. A winner by a neck in 1:55.3 over Capturethephoto (Austin Hanners), the Miles Wollam trainee is now three-for-nine lifetime with $38,107 in the bank for owner Robert Kline. Flirtin Tomi (Brett Miller) finished third. The 8-1 fourth choice paid $19.80 to win.
Sam Widger steered Princess Karolyn to a 1-3/4-length victory in the third division for co-owner and trainer Rosy Weaver. The mile tied the filly's mark of 1:55 taken earlier this season. The Creatine filly out of the Credit Winner mare Social Success, co-owned by Heartland Acres, now has nine wins in 19 lifetime starts and $94,502 in earnings. Joyofmylife As (Chris Page) was second, followed by Moolah In The Bank (Chris Lems). The winner paid $16.80.
Racing continues on Friday at Scioto Downs with a 16-race card. There will be five $20,000 USD divisions of the Buckeye Stallion Series for three-year-old filly pacers.
