House Edge Hanover Commanding In Summerside Preferred

House Edge Hanover

House Edge Hanover rose back to the Preferred Pace level at Summerside Raceway on Tuesday, June 2 and converted off tepid middle fractions for a front-stepping victory in the $6,250 feature as one of two favourites to win on the 14-race card.

Driver Jason Hughes hustled the Ron Matheson trainee to the front from the rail in the 13th-race headliner, first releasing Doc Awesome (Corey MacPherson) before swinging House Edge Hanover to the top. The son of Betting Line-Hug A Dragoness put up a first quarter of :27.3, then brought the field of five through the half in :57.2 and three-quarters in 1:27 before sprinting home in :27.3 to win in 1:54.3. Doc Awesome sat the pocket and finished second with Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) third.

The winning five-year-old gelding is owned by Everette Hanson of Maugerville, N.B. House Edge Hanover's career stats now read 23 wins from 59 starts and $87,080 in earnings. He paid $2.30 to win.

Hughes was a four-time winner on the program. He also won with Starship Destiny ($8) in the second race in 1:59.3 for trainer Mario Macri, Abiding Art ($4.50) in 1:56.2 for George Rennison in the seventh and Woodmere Ideal Art ($7.70) from the rail in Race 12 in 1:58.4 for trainer Sifroi Melanson.

Driver Paul Langille won three races. The evening opened with an upset as Do Or Di ($25.90) and Langille defeated maiden pacing colts in 2:01 for trainer-owner William MacKay. Starship Slx ($18.20) swept wide and struck in the ninth race for Langille and trainer Earl Watts, winning in 1:59.4. Nofool Tobago ($5.70) closed out the program in Race 14 as Langille put the Garth Cole homebred on the lead and got him home a nose winner in 1:58.3.
