Sassy By The Sea winning at Miami Valley Raceway

Sassy By The Sea scored her second straight Ohio Sires Stakes win of the season on Saturday, May 30 as Northfield Park hosted four $104,167 divisions of the second leg for sophomore fillies.

In the first division for filly pacers, Sassy By The Sea and driver Tyler Smith were in fifth place and trailed favoured leader Estuary (Dan Noble) by more than seven lengths as the field passed the first two calls in :27.1 and :56. Estuary led the fillies past the three-quarter pole in 1:24.1 as Sassy By The Sea closed the gap to five lengths. Sassy By The Sea made it four-wide entering the final stretch and used a late spurt to edge Laude Da (Chris Page) by half a length at the line, finishing in 1:53. Shesafirewoman (Brett Miller) was third.

Sassy By The Sea is trained by Herman Hagerman for owners Hagerman Racing of Mt. Vernon, Ohio and Charles Reeve of Broadview Heights, Ohio. The Downbytheseaside-Sassy Lady Art filly has won all three of her starts in 2026 after going winless in eight races as a freshman. She now has $155,930 in lifetime earnings.

Kb Wrecking Ball, a winner in the James K. Hackett Memorial final earlier this season, won the second Sires Stakes division for filly pacers by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.4. Trained by Deborah Swartz and driven by Dan Noble, the Fool Me Once-Shes A Ball filly was second behind first-leg winner Vanna By The River (Jordan Stratton) at the quarter pole in :28.3 but led the field at the next two calls in :56.4 and 1:25.3 en route to the victory. Shacarri (Page) edged out her Ron Burke stablemate Seaside Shuffle (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) and Vanna By The River for second-place honours.

Kb Wrecking Ball is a homebred owned by Bradley Delaney of Wilmington, Ohio. Unraced as a two-year-old, she has hit the board in all nine of her seasonal starts with seven wins and earnings of $174,529.

Charlies Moni, another 2026 Hackett final winner, won the first division for sophomore filly trotters in 1:54.2 with Chris Lems in the sulky. The Vernon Beachy trainee led gate to wire, setting fractions of :28.2, :57.2 and 1:25.3 along the way, and won by 1-1/4-length over Fairytale Moni (Wrenn Jr.) in second with Speedbewithyou (Austin Hanners) finishing third.

A Ready For Moni-Makes Me Crazy filly, Charlies Moni rebounded from a miscue in the opening leg of the Sires Stakes and has won three of her four seasonal starts after a lone victory in the Ohio Fair stakes at two. She has earned $182,793 lifetime for Ohio owners 518 Group of New Philadelphia, Ryan Smith of Dennison, Gitup Racing of Garrettsville and Hayden Myers of Chagrin Falls.

Rose Run Brooke and Wrenn gave Beachy a sweep of the trotting filly divisions, winning in front-end fashion. The In Range-Count On Kami filly, last year's Sires Stakes Championship runner-up who finished third in this year's opening leg, was victorious in the second round by a length in a lifetime-best 1:55.4. She was on the point by the quarter in :28.4 and carved out middle splits of :57.4 and 1:27.3 on her way to victory lane. Cast No Stones (Trevor Smith) was second followed by Divvy It Up (Miller) in third.

Owned by First Up Racing Stable of Beach City, Ohio, Rose Run Brooke was a two-time Ohio stakes winner in his freshman campaign and has won two of her four starts this year, pushing her bankroll to $329,555.

Celebrating its 50th season this year, the Ohio Sires Stakes resumes on June 13 with the third leg for sophomore colt trotters at Eldorado Scioto Downs.
