Prairie Rocknroll Pounces In Saratoga Open

Prairie Rocknroll

Prairie Rocknroll, the runner-up in back-to-back installments of the Open Handicap Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel in the last two weeks, got the job done off a perfect trip in the $25,000 feature on Saturday, May 30.

The Kyle Spagnola-trained pacer was once again the betting favourite this week and flashed early speed in the Open before yielding for a two-hole journey behind last week’s winner Humble A (Aaron Byron). Humble A put up a first quarter in :27.1 and a half in :56.2 while Prairie Rocknroll rode the coattails of the leader. Billy Dobson popped the pocket with the Spagnola trainee approaching three-quarters in 1:24.4, and Prairie Rocknroll quickly surged to the lead. Longshot Imtheblackflash N (Chris Long) shook loose late in his debut in the Open and closed sharply to finish second by 1-1/4 lengths in the mile that was clocked in 1:52.2. Mr Mclaren N (Larry Stalbaum) came on to be third.

Prairie Rocknroll now has three wins and a pair of seconds in his six starts in 2026. The five-year-old son of A Rocknroll Dance-Stonebridge Luna is owned by breeder Laurie Poulin of Barton, N.Y. He paid $4.40 to win.

Live racing continues at Saratoga on Sunday. The matinee card will feature a carryover of $2,653 in the early Pick Five, which starts in the first race.
