Turn The Page N, Resolve To Win Swift In Plainridge Opens
Plainridge Park featured a pair of $34,722 Open-class events on Tuesday, May 26, and both winners put forth seasonal-best efforts to reach the line first.
After winning her first Plainridge start of the year last out, Turn The Page N made it back-to-back victories in the Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace. Ron Cushing got her away third as Intothemysticmoon (Bruce Ranger) led the field to the quarter in :26.3 and half in :54.4. Turn The Page N swung out nearing the midway point and moved towards the leader in a sharp third panel, racing a length back at three-quarters in 1:21.3. Turn The Page N gave Intothemysticmoon all she could handle around the last turn and edged into the lead as they made their way into the stretch. Turn The Page N then turned it on, pushing to the front by three-quarters of a length and winning in 1:50.1. Joansrisingstar N (Kevin Switzer Jr.) was third.
Turn The Page N ($3.40) moved to five-for-12 on the year for owners Ron Cushing and Kevin Sywyk. Heidi Cushing trains the daughter of Vincent-Sheza Monkee, who is 27-for-69 lifetime.
In the Open Handicap Trot, Resolve To Win was a pocket rocket en route to his fifth win of the year in 11 outings.
Kazio Dk (Kevin Switzer Jr.) and Resolve To Win (Bruce Ranger) both left well and lined up first and second, respectively, to the quarter in :27. Kazio Dk was on the bit motoring to the half in :56.4 when Super Duper Cooper (Nick Graffam) came first-over heading up the backstretch. Kazio Dk continued to cruise and held Super Duper Cooper at bay past three-quarters in 1:24.1 before he started to fade around the last turn. That left a clear path to victory for Resolve To Win, who pulled out and bolted down the lane to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:53. Bravado (Matt Athearn) closed for second, followed by Pepper Wow (Jay Randall).
The win was the 30th lifetime in 98 appearances for Resolve To Win ($4.80), who is owned by Pollack Racing LLC and trained by Enrico Robinson. The six-year-old son of Resolve-Sensual Hall is two-for-three in Plainridge Opens this season.
Mitchell Cushing scored a driving hat trick on the 10-race card while Mario Dessureault topped his fellow trainers with two wins during the afternoon.
Racing resumes at Plainridge Park on Thursday at 4 p.m. There will be a $22,595 carryover in the Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta wager in the sixth race.
