Odds On Mr Mamba Sparkles In 2026 Debut

Odds On Mr Mamba

World champion Odds On Mr Mamba began his three-year-old campaign with a 1:49 first-over score in the lone $133,333 Indiana Sire Stakes (INSS) first-leg division for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings on Monday, May 25 at Harrah's Hoosier Park.

Leaving from post two in the full field of 10, Dexter Dunn floated the 1-9 favourite into fourth on the first turn while Dancingdreamer (Aaron Stutzman) blitzed to the lead around What Nooo Waaay (John De Long) to reach the opening station in :26.2. Dancingdreamer kept the throttle down to the half in :54.2 before Dunn began to angle Odds On Mr Mamba off the cones. The field scorched into the final turn, with Dancingdreamer continuing to lead the way to the three-quarter pole in 1:22.2 while Odds On Mr Mamba powered alongside What Nooo Waaay before setting his sights on the leader.

Dunn began to call on Odds On Mr Mamba at the head of the lane, and the returning fastest two-year-old ever powered clear of Dancingdreamer with a :26.1 final panel en route to a 2-1/4-length score for his 1:49 clocking. What Nooo Waaay edged out a hard-charging Swiss Lights (Trace Tetrick) for the place position.

The victorious Odds On Racing homebred, a gelded son of Odds On Equuleus-Honky Tonk Woman, has now won eight straight starts since finishing fourth in his career debut. Odds On Mr Mamba paced the fastest mile by a two-year-old in harness racing history when he won in 1:47.4 at Hoosier last year. Trained by Melanie Wrenn, the 4-1 second favourite in the TROT Magazine Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book now boasts a career bankroll of $503,219 and has won nine times in 10 starts. He paid $2.10 at the windows.

Far from the only star on the Monday card, Indiana's best put on a show with all other sophomore divisions offering a pair of splits for their first leg of INSS.

The INSS action kicked off with a bang, as Somemore Blue (Marcus Miller) took the lid-lifter in a career-best 1:50 in the $67,361 first division for sophomore pacing fillies. The 1-9 favourite out of post two, Somemore Blue eased off the gate to the rail behind Klorox Queen (Trace Tetrick) in a :27.1 first quarter. The six-horse field entered the backstretch single file led by Klorox Queen, and the order remained unchanged to the halfway point in :56.1. The pattern continued to three-quarters in 1:24 with Klorox Queen followed tightly by Somemore Blue. Transitioning into the stretch, Somemore Blue sprung to life along the outside of Klorox Queen, taking flight in a last panel :25.3 to best that foe by two lengths. Keeps Miss Dixie (Brandon Bates) rallied for third at 42-1.

Somemore Blue is owned by Douglas Overhiser, Ken Duffy, Lava Java Stable and Never 2 Late Stable and trained by Erv Miller. The Rockin Image-Misssomebeach Blue filly increased her lifetime earnings to $429,603 and her record to nine-for-12. She returned $2.20.

Last year's two-year-old INSS champion, Whoomp (John De Long), returned in style for her three-year-old campaign, coasting to an easy victory in the $67,361 second division. Whoomp was away second in the quintet with Its My Story (Trace Tetrick) calling the shots at the quarter in :29.1 before Whoomp brushed on the backstretch to assume the lead before the half in :57.4. After cruising to three-quarters in 1:26, Whoomp turned on the jets with a :25.4 final quarter to win by three lengths in 1:51.4 over Its My Story and Milliondollarimage (Jordan Ross).

Roger Welch trains the winning daughter of Rockin Image-Nightcap, who was named Indiana's Pacer of the Year in 2025. Whoomp is a William and Patrick De Long homebred, co-owned by Jesse De Long. She pushed her career bankroll to $518,606 and improved to nine-for-14 lifetime. She paid $2.10 to win.

Both of Welch's two-year-old champions scored on the evening, with For Dayze (John De Long) battling back to take the first of two $67,361 splits for three-year-old trotting fillies. Starting from the outside post six, For Dayze raced outside of Dial Nine One One (Jordan Ross) to the quarter in :28.4 before crossing over to the lead before the half in :59.1. After bringing the group to three-quarters in 1:28.3, For Dayze lost the lead briefly midway through the stretch as Dial Nine One One exploded from the pocket to grab the advantage. Refusing to be denied, For Dayze re-rallied to get the win by a half-length over Dial Nine One One in 1:55.3. Honeymoon (Trace Tetrick) motored for third.

The win was the first in two outings on the season for For Dayze. The daughter of Swan For All-Southwind Storm is owned by William and Patrick De Long. For Dayze has won seven of 12 lifetime starts while banking $399,230. Her win price was $3.

In the second division for trotting fillies, Fresh Face Yankee remained perfect on the season in a career-best effort with conditioner Jay Cross in the sulky. Asserting herself early from the outside post six, Fresh Face Yankee led through first-half fractions of :28.1 and :58. She then trotted to three-quarters in 1:27.1 before Help Cum Laude (Atlee Bender) took aim from the pocket. Fresh Face Yankee turned away that challenge, sprinting to the wire in :26.2 en route to a 1:53.3 clocking while 1-1/4 lengths clear. Help Cum Laude held second, with Expressive Gal (Kyle Wilfong) in third.

Tim Smith owns the winning daughter of Crescent Fashion-Swan Yankee, who is perfect in four tries this season. Fresh Face Yankee has won 13 of 19 lifetime starts for career earnings of $123,754. She was a $3.80 winner.

In the first of two $70,138 divisions for sophomore trotting colts, the photo finish camera couldn't separate Dan D Man Can (Atlee Bender) and August Salazar (John De Long) as the two favourites hit the wire together. Dan D Man Can grabbed command early, with August Salazar content to sit on his back from the pocket through fractions of :29.4, :59.3 and 1:28.3. August Salazar then took aim from the two-hole, and the duo traded blows the length of the lane and were inseparable on the wire in 1:55.2. Premier Bluebird (Kyle Wilfong) was third behind the dead-heat, 4-1/2 lengths back.

Dan D Man Can is now two-for two in his sophomore campaign for trainer Erv Miller and owners Red Barn Stable, Overhiser and Lava Java Stable. The Dover Dan-Caramela Hanover gelding is a three-time career winner in 11 outings with $228,447 in earnings.

August Salazar has now won five of six outings at three, with the Ron Burke trainee owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Frank Baldachino and Michael Rosenthal. The Big Stick Lindy-Girls Gone Lindy colt boasts a career bankroll of $240,687 following the 11th win in his 23 lifetime outings. Both winners returned $2.10.

In the second division for trotting colts, San Patricio dazzled in his sophomore debut as he wired the field in a career-best 1:52.4 with driver Trace Tetrick aboard. Tetrick fired the even-money favourite off the wings, taking control to the quarter in :28 before facing pressure from a parked-out Starlit Dan Dover (LeWayne Miller) to the half in :56.2. San Patricio turned away that foe to three-quarters in 1:25 before powering home in :27.4 to hold Swan Affect (Marcus Miller) and Inverness Ave (John De Long) at bay by 1-1/2 lengths on the line. Swan Affect finished second over Inverness Ave.

Making his first start since Sept. 3, 2025, the winning Tyler Butenschoen trainee has now won six of nine lifetime appearances for owners Tony Holmes, Michael Holmes, June Zent and Timothy Thornton. San Patricio, a gelded son of Swan For All-Kaikoura, now sports career earnings of $179,461. He paid $4 to win.
