Checkpoint Chatter Captures Plainridge Feature

Checkpoint Chatter

Employing her usual stellar stretch drive, Checkpoint Chatter powered home to take the featured $23,611 conditioned pace for fillies and mares at Plainridge Park on Monday, May 25.

Driver Jimmy Hardy got away fourth with Checkpoint Chatter while Racy Roxy A (Jay Randall) pushed to the top past the :26.4 quarter. Racy Roxy A then led the single-file field to the half in :55.2 and onto the backstretch. Shortly after the five-eighths, Gowestyounggrace (Kevin Switzer Jr.) pulled from third and Checkpoint Chatter gladly took her cover. Gowestyounggrace cleared to the front at three-quarters in 1:23.4, and Checkpoint Chatter made up two lengths and drew alongside that foe at the top of the stretch. The two mares matched strides down the lane until Checkpoint Chatter pulled ahead by a half-length and won in 1:51.4 with a sharp :27.4 final panel. Chakra (Matt Athearn) was third.

Checkpoint Chatter ($7.20) took her 33rd career win in 160 starts. Don Guidette Jr. trains the eight-year-old daughter of Always A Virgin-Blistletoe, now one-for-six this year, for Upland Farm.

There was also a pair of $18,056 sub-featured conditioned paces on the card. The first was won by Peter Petrify N (1:52.3, $5.80), who was driven by Mitchell Cushing and trained by Edwin Quevedo for owner Steve Moskowitz Racing LLC, and the second went to Beantown Deuce (1:52.2, $5.60), who went a lifetime-best mile for driver Drew Monti, trainer Jesse McAssey and owner Michael Goldberg Racing LLC.

Kevin Switzer Jr. and Mitchell Cushing both had two driving wins during the nine-race program.

Racing resumes at Plainridge on Tuesday at 4 p.m. There will be a $21,040 carryover in the Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta wager in the sixth race.
