Go Have Fun Sets Track Record At Running Aces
Go Have Fun and trainer/driver Brady Jenson wrote their names into the Running Aces record books on Sunday, May 24 as Jenson steered the Ontario-sired trotting mare to an impressive gate-to-wire effort in 1:54.2, eclipsing the previous divisional track record of 1:54.3 held by both Silverlode (2018) and Susies Sister (2022), and making her the fastest female trotter ever at the Minnesota oval.
In the evening's $12,500 opening conditioned race, the five-year-old daughter of Kadabra-Lady Mary Lee trotted a final half in a very impressive :56.1 to achieve the record clocking, keeping the reigning Minnesota Horse of the Year Peanutbutterfalcon (Scott Cisco) at bay in second while Braggen Bliss (Nick Roland) was a close third in the mile.
She returned $2.60 to win as the bettors' choice and is now perfect in two Running Aces starts.
Go Have Fun is currently owned by Jenson, in partnership with Ken Stauffer of Withee, Wisconsin and Cathy Dessert of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota. She now has 11 career wins with earnings of $221,728 from 75 starts.
Chapolier ($2.80) delivered another big performance as the heavy favourite in the $20,833 Open Handicap, trotting in 1:54.4 for his third win from six starts this year and his 36th career victory. Escaper (Rick Magee) went to the front early but Luke Plano made a quarter-pole move to the top with Chapolier and never looked back en route to a 1-1/2-length tally over Escaper, with BPs Lucky Star (Lemoyne Svendsen) getting up late for third money. The winner is also owned and trained by Plano.
Season-debuting sophomore colt Isthatevnaquestion ($52) and Scott Cisco upset Bang Bang Boogie (Rick Magee), catching the favourite by a neck at the end of a career-best 1:58 mile to win the $8,333 opening leg of the late-closing Banker Volo Trotting Series. Amanda Fraser trains the winner for owner/breeder Jeralene Roland of Sandstone, Minnesota.
Drivers Nick Roland and Brady Jenson and trainer Brett Ballinger all had doubles on the Sunday card.
Live harness racing returns to Running Aces on Tuesday, May 26 for an eight-race card that will get underway at 7 p.m. (CDT) and will offer 'Dollar Night' specials and free bet drawings.
