Presto Reaches 1,000-Win Milestone
Trainer Brandon Presto took his 1,000th career training victory as Fashion Cantab reached up to win by a nose in the slop in the fourth race at The Meadows on Wednesday, May 20.
In the $10,685 conditioned trot, Dave Palone sent the seven-year-old Cantab Hall-Rule Of Hall gelding to the front, then yielded to Killer Instinct (Justin Irvine) and maintained the pocket into the stretch. Fashion Cantab kicked into gear late and rolled past Killer Instinct at the pylons while out-sprinting Focus Pocus (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) to win by a nose in 1:55. Killer Instinct was third by a neck. Fashion Cantab, now three-for-16 this year, is owned by Rocco Stebbins. He paid $5.80 to win.
Presto earned his first training win at The Meadows in 2010 with Space Chalet — driven by Mike Wilder, who was fourth in Wednesday's contest — and has taken the bulk of his victories at the southeast Pennsylvania oval. The Houston, Pa.-based trainer is coming off his best season to date with 210 wins and $2.24 million in earnings last year from 891 starts. He is 96-for-374 in 2026 for a 25.7 per cent strike rate. Roan By Design made it back-to-back wins for Presto in the fifth race on Wednesday, bringing the conditioner’s career tally up to 1,001.
