Early leader A Blue Million (Tony Morgan), who won this event three starts ago, authored early fractions of :28.2 and :58.2. Speed Away, driven by Corey Callahan, began his march nearing the half and pressed up uncovered to eclipse the pacesetter at three-quarters in 1:27.
