Upper-Level Mares Headline Charlottetown Thursday

My Happy Place

A competitive upper-level conditioned pace feature for fillies and mares will headline Thursday, May 21 racing action at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval has a 10-dash presentation beginning at 6 p.m., with the $4,650 top pace carded as Race 9.

My Happy Place is listed as a top contender in the feature with a 3-1 morning-line billing. She will start from the rail for driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Jackie Matheson after putting together a solid outing in her first start of the season, finishing fourth in 1:55.2 in a Preferred 3 on May 14. The daughter of Shadow Play-Smilesplace, owned by Pat Morris and Jodi Lynn Matheson of Charlottetown, P.E.I., comes into the event off a strong three-year-old campaign in which she won seven of 19 starts and banked $51,444 in prize money.

Moon Bound gets the respect as the 5-2 morning-line favourite from post four with David Dowling listed to drive for trainer Jennifer Doyle. The four-year-old daughter of Bet The Moon-Village Bound had her three-race win streak snapped last week as she finished second in the Preferred 3. She will make her eighth start of the year for owners Greg Kirby of Sidney, Maine and Nathaniel Smith of Holden, Maine.

Saulsbrook Pika (8-1) leaves from post two for driver Kenny Arsenault and trainer Ron Matheson after flying home to finish second in her first start of the year.

Rosetown Mary (6-1) snagged her first win of the campaign in two starts last week for trainer-driver Corey MacPherson and has post three as she looks to build on her 27 career victories.

Brokeandoutofgas (7-2) gets post five for trainer Tammy Collings and driver Landon Campbell, who steered the mare to a fourth-place finish as she resumed off a three-and-a-half-month layoff last week.

Shake N Blake (4-1) is another major player from post six with Ken Murphy in the bike for Doyle. The iron-tough mare has been racing against top-level company so far this season.

Elm Grove Talia (10-1) rounds out the field from post seven with Jason Hughes driving for trainer Luke Burke. She will look for her first win of her four-year-old season in three starts after eight victories 19 starts in 2025.

The Post Time Picks side with My Happy Place.

“My Happy Place paced her mile in 1:55.2 with a final quarter of :27.4 in her first start off the bench, so expect her to be even better this week. With rail control, I'm betting she leads gate-to-wire.”
