Sauble Attack pulled off a mild upset in the feature pace on Victoria Day Monday (May 18) afternoon on opening day at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as Prince County celebrates 150 years of harness racing.

Sauble Attack ($16.10) controlled every call in the $5,500 tenth race feature for driver Kenny Murphy and trainer Paul Biggar. The eight-year-old son of Bettors Delight blasted to the lead from post 4 and never looked back through splits of 28.2, 57.2 and 1:26.1 before holding off Doc Awesome (Driven by David Dowling) in 1:54.4. Louie The Great (Corey MacPherson) completed the triactor. Biggar of Tyne Valley, P.E.I., and Donald Callbeck of Summerside, P.E.I. share ownership of the winner.

The Red Shores Opening Day Pace in the first race started with Millenium Seelster ($6.10) rallying from off the pace to score in 1:59.1 for driver-trainer Nicholas Oakes. Marc It Up (Jaycob Sweet) cut the fractions before settling for second while J J Patrick (Brady Sweet) rounded out the top three. Emma Christoforou of Moffat, Ont., owns the veteran pacer.

The Jaycob Sweet stable was hot on the day as Timberlea Lady ($6.00) converted a perfect pocket trip into victory in the seventh for the O’Leary trainer-driver stopping the clock in 2:00.4 over James Reigns (Dana Sweet) and Silver Jake (Devon Wallace). U Bettim Eazy ($3.20) was dominant in the second, opening up by 17 lengths at the wire for Jaycob Sweet in 1:58.1.

The finale went to Freemans Legacy ($9.70), who nailed pacesetting favourite American Risk (Corey MacPherson) right on the line in 1:56.1 for a triple for trainer-driver Jaycob Sweet.

The biggest upset of the day came in the fifth as Almost Amos ($23.50) got up in the final strides for Jason Hughes and trainer Darla MacEachern in 1:56.4. Elm Grove Mistress (David Dowling) was a game second while Sharky (Taylor Doyle) completed the triactor. MacEachern co-owns the gelding with Zoey MacEachern of Oleary, P.E.I.

Live racing continues Thursday evening at 6 p.m., at Red Shores Charlottetown.
