Triple Sevens Wins Open; Five For Bailey

Triple Sevens

Driver Leon Bailey had five wins, including the $11,644 Open Pace with Triple Sevens, at Vernon Downs on Saturday, May 16.

Merrow (Chris Long) made the front and led to the first quarter in :27 before Triple Sevens used a burst of speed to take the lead heading down the backstretch. He then led through middle fractions of :55.4 and 1:23.3. As they reached the stretch, eventual third-place finisher Merrow came all out after the leader as second-place finisher War Of Will (John MacDonald) made a three-wide move, but Triple Sevens held firm and won by three-quarters of a length in a lifetime-best 1:51.3.

Triple Sevens, a five-year-old gelding by Rockin Image-Seventimesavirgin, is now 11-for-62 lifetime. He is owned by Rocco Stebbins and trained by Joe Skowyra. The win price was $9.96.

Bailey got his other victories with True Seelster ($2.66), Ralphneddie ($3.14), Get Down ($12.02) and Primo Uomo ($2.70). He has 27 wins at Vernon so far in the meet, giving him a 16-win lead over second-placed Jeff Gregory.

Joe Skowyra and David Dewhurst had training doubles on the 11-race card.
