Stevie Hanover Scores In Harrington Open
Stevie Hanover converted on a pocket trip to win the $30,822 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace in 1:53.1 on Tuesday, May 12 at Harrington Raceway.
The four-year-old Betting Line-Shes A Fan mare, driven by Montrell Teague, sat second through :27.4, :55.4 and 1:24.1 fractions. She then collared longshot pacesetter Fengshuiprosperity (Pat Berry) near the top of the stretch and earned her second win of the season in 11 starts for trainer Jamie Sullivan. Jett Propelled (Jason Thompson) was second by 1-3/4 lengths with Fengshuiprosperity third.
Stevie Hanover, owned by Frank Chick, took her 11th career win in 35 appearances. She paid $9.60 to win.
In the sub-featured $24,658 Fillies and Mares Open II Pace, Mark Howard’s Gogettermisscheddr ($15.40, Pat Berry) used an impressive stretch rally to swoop the field late in 1:55 for trainer Will Reynolds. The win also gave Berry a driving double, equalling the totals of Givens, Tony Morgan, Troy Beyer and Art Stafford Jr. on the 15-race card.
The first 10 races were won by 10 different drivers, with only one favourite prevailing. Brandon Givens was the first to record a double after prevailing with Prestigious Prince ($4.60) in the 11th, who registered a repeat victory for trainer William Bright.
Crissman Inc.’s Some Waratah A ($7.20, Tony Morgan) tallied his 46th career win in his 115th start in a $13,699 pace for claimers. The gutsy 12-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Lady Waratah gelding set all the fractions and held off Truthfinder (Troy Beyer) by a nose for a narrow win.
Live racing will continue at Harrington on a Monday-through-Wednesday schedule with post time at 4:30 p.m.
