Custard Dolce made her second start at Plainridge Park a memorable one after winning the featured $34,247 Open Pace for fillies and mares with a career-best time and in gate-to-wire fashion.

Custard Dolce and driver Drew Monti seated the field off the gate and then set solid fractions while receiving little resistance from behind until late in the race. Custard Dolce went :27, :55.1 and 1:23.1, while Intothemysticmoon (Kevin Switzer Jr.) sat in the pocket and Ambushed (Cory Stratton) made a mild bid, third on the outside.

Custard Dolce led the girls off the far turn and when they straightened for home, Intothemysticmoon tipped off the pylons trying to advance, which gave the third-over Swedish Starlet N (Matty Athearn) the opening she needed. Swedish Starlet N made her way to the center of the track and barrelled down the lane, making up two lengths in the process. But she came up just a nose short at the line as Custard Dolce stayed on task and closed out the race with a victorious 1:51.2 clocking, which was a new lifetime mark from the mare. Intothemysticmoon held sway for third.

Custard Dolce, who was named the 2025 Alberta Horse of the Year, is owned by Kellogg Racing Stables of Queensbury, New York and trained by Jackie Greene. The four-year-old daughter by Custard The Dragon is out of the As Promised mare, Blue Star West. Notching her third win of the season, she improved her lifetime record to 19-for-29 while her earnings climbed to $432,631.

Sent postward at odds of 7-1, Custard Dolce returned $16.60 to her $2 win backers at the betting windows.

There were also two $23,288 conditioned events on the program, one on each gait.

First in the upper-lever conditioned pace for fillies and mares, Royally Hot ($3, Kevin Switzer Jr.) took the lead past the quarter and dominated from that point on. After cruising to the half in :55 and three-quarters in 1:23.1, Switzer gave Royally Hot her head and she pulled away from the field. Royally Hot opened up five lengths around the last turn and maintained that advantage as a wrapped-up winner in 1:51.2, which was a career best effort. Royally Hot is owned by Tim Tetrick of Woolwich Township, New Jersey and trained by Kevin Switzer.

Later in the conditioned trot, Ponda Rocky ($23,60, Bruce Ranger) led comfortably to the half in :57.2 before Snowman Hanover (Ron Cushing) pulled first-over with Sunburnt Silverado (Jay Randall) following with intent. Snowman Hanover ran down Ponda Rocky and entered the stretch in front. But Sunburnt Silverado tipped off his cover and trotted past him in deep stretch to win by a length in 1:55.1, which was a new seasonal mark. Sunburnt Silverado is owned by Michael Casalino Jr. of Freehold, New Jersey and trained by Rob Harmon.

Drivers Matty Athearn and Jim Hardy and trainer Jolene Andrews all scored two wins apiece on Monday.

Racing resumes at Plainridge Park on Tuesday, May 12 at 4 p.m. and there will be a $6,873 USD carryover in the Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta wager in the sixth race.
