Usain Hanover Lands Another Mohawk Open Upset

Usain Hanover

Usain Hanover came in at double-digit odds in the $40,000 Open Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park for the second time this season as he made a decisive final-turn move on the way to victory on Sunday, May 10.

The gelding started fifth from the inside post as Hasty Bid (James MacDonald), a three-time Open winner in 2026, cut a :28.1 opening quarter on the front. Favourite Logan Park (Doug McNair) then took over approaching the half in :57.2 and led into the last turn. Usain Hanover, driven by Louis-Philippe Roy, rocketed out of the five-hole as they swung towards three-quarters in 1:25.4 and rolled up to the leader’s wheel at the top of the stretch. Usain Hanover overpowered Logan Park down the lane and was home in time to win by a half-length over the closing Hasty Bid in 1:52.4. Outside The Fire (Bob McClure) rallied for third.

Usain Hanover, now three-for-13 this year, won at 16-1 in an Open on Feb. 1 and scored in a conditioned contest two starts back at Mohawk. Dave Menary trains the gelding for Pollack Racing LLC of Venetia, Pa. The five-year-old son of Bar Hopping-Up Front Hotsey recorded his 16th win and grew his bankroll to $446,061 in his 55th career start. He returned $29.10 at the windows.
