Saulsbrook Victor Wins Open; Deters, Pantaleano Dominant
Saulsbrook Victor dug in off a front-end trip to capture the $20,548 Open Pace at Tioga Downs on Sunday, May 10 for driver Brett MacDonald and trainer Ron MacDonald.
Saulsbrook Victor went straight to the front and led to the quarter in :26.4 and half in :55.2. Livonjaxandqueens (Greg Merton) was first to make a move heading down the backstretch and rushed up to take a short lead at three-quarters in 1:23. As they reached the stretch, Saulsbrook Victor rallied back to the lead, then hung on over the late surge of Four By Four (Ron Cushing) to win by a half-length in 1:51.3. Livonjaxandqueens had to settle for third money.
Saulsbrook Victor, an eight-year-old Source Of Pride-Atlanta Girl gelding, is now three-for-12 this year for owner Brett MacDonald of Freelton, Ont. Sunday's win was his 37th lifetime in 150 starts. He paid $4.24 to win.
Driver Jim Pantaleano and trainer Mike Deters hooked up for four wins on the 12-race program. Their victories came with Always B Elvis ($21.84), Mirragon A ($2.62), Bluebird Time ($9.84) and Vulcan Star N ($2.52). Deters doubled his seasonal win total, bringing it up to eight, with the grand slam. He leads the Tioga standings early in the meet with seven tallies, three more than second-placed Cameron Capone.
Pantaleano also won with the Jody Riedel-trained Keystone Dash ($7.50) in the opener and finished the day with five wins. He has 18 wins from 233 starts in 2026 and is now second in the Tioga standings, five tallies behind Braxten Boyd.
