Page, Morgan Prominent On BSS Card At Scioto
Driver Chris Page won six and trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. won five races on Saturday, May 9 at Eldorado Scioto Downs, and they teamed up to take two of the 11 total $27,397 Buckeye Stallion Series (BSS) divisions for three-year-old males on the 16-race card.
Odds On Rpj ($18.20), a son of Downbytheseaside-Odds On Ashley, won the second division for pacers in 1:52.3 for the combination of Page, Morgan and owner Odds On Racing in his seasonal debut. The Ebony Dragon (Luke Hanners) was second with Rock On Beach (Brett Miller) third.
Odds On Sugar ($5.80) was the second winner for the Page/Morgan/Odds On Racing connections, winning the fourth pacing split in 1:53.2. Morgan, Operation Horsepower and Sugar Valley Farm LLC co-own the Downbytheseaside-Laughandbehappy colt. Fire The Dems (Austin Hanners) was placed up to second with Ultimate Catch (Chris Lems) elevated to third.
Morgan's third BSS winner was Odds On Phil ($14.20), a son of Lather Up-Beach Granny. Luke Hanners piloted the colt to victory in the final pacing split for Odds On Racing in 1:53. Fired Up Henry L (Hank LeVan) was second with Ninetynineproblems (Mike Wilder) third.
Leave No Trace ($4.40), also driven by Page, and Odds On Mister X ($4) completed the quintet of winners for Morgan. Aiming for his 32nd straight training title at Scioto, Morgan leads at the conclusion of opening weekend with nine wins, seven more than his closest rival.
Page scored three more wins in the BSS for three different trainers. His first BSS win of the day came in the second division for trotters with Royal Enterprise ($4.60) in 1:55.4. The Enterprise-Itsgoodtobequeen colt, trained by Greg Wright, Jr. and owned by Jon Erdner, was a dominant winner over Long Hill (Luke Hanners), with Hall Stead (Chris Lems) third.
The third pacing division went to Touchedbythesea ($7.80), driven by Page for trainer Ron Buke, in 1:52.3. The Downbytheseaside-Summer Touch gelding has won back-to-back starts for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC, Knox Services Inc., Slaughter Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. Tsunami Seas (Luke Hanners) was second with Seven Seas (Cameron McCown) third.
Legends Rule ($28.20), by Bit Of A Legend N-Shesa Lucky Lady, won the fifth division for pacers in 1:54 for Page and trainer Teesha Symes. Richard McGlynn and Randy Marriage own the gelding. Fire The Prez (Chris Lems) was second with Worknupalather (Wilder) third.
Page's five BSS scores, in addition to his single tally in the Buckeye Claiming Series, gave him six for the night. Last year's top dash-winning driver at Scioto is tied for the 2026 lead with Luke Hanners through opening weekend with eight wins each. Brett Miller and David Miller are then tied for third with five wins apiece.
Time Has Come ($4) and driver Brady Brown won the first BSS trot division in 1:56.1 for trainer Miles Wollam and owners Marty Wollam and Acadia Farms Inc. The Uncle Peter-Contessa Leigh gelding went first-up to victory with Mile Range (Brett Miller) second and Mister Moolah (Page) third.
Ready For Sunshine ($3.20), a Ready For Moni-A Ray Of Sunshine gelding, took the third trot split in 1:57.2 with Luke Hanners aboard for owner Robert Laniewicz and trainer Deborah Swartz. Dublins Holiday (Page) was second with Out Of Range (Brett Miller) third.
Bitcoin King ($4) and Austin Hanners scored in 1:55.4 in the fourth trotting division. Co-owned by trainer Chris Beaver and Part Time Stable, the Uncle Peter-Massive Girl colt cut the mile for a victory over Whoisthis (Mike Wilder) in second, followed by Dans Victory (Page).
Eckert Hill Brady ($19) and Sam Widger took the last trotting division in 1:56.3, with the In Range-Carrie The Torch gelding front-stepping to victory for trainer Rosy Weaver, who co-owns him with Roger Huston and Barbara Wilson. Jackie Jann (Wilbur Yoder) was second with Another Round (Luke Hanners) third.
Global ($4.20) won the pacing opener with Chris Lems at the lines. The Brian Brown trainee, an intact son of Downbytheseaside-Bozeman, stopped the clock in 1:53.2 for Diamond Creek Racing. Myboypank (Marvin Luna) was second, followed by Odds On Ray (Page).
There were many large payouts on opening weekend at Scioto. Of the 44 races contested Thursday through Saturday, eight winners were over double-digit odds, with 18 horses paying more than $10 to win. Carryovers were also seen on all three cards, including the 20-cent Superfecta and Super Hi-5 and the $1 Pick-4 and 50-cent Pick-5, the latter two of which have a low 14 per cent takeout. There are two carryovers going into Tuesday’s card – $1,726 into the early Pick-4 and $5,042 starting the early Pick-5, which now has a $20,000 guarantee through the USTA’s Strategic Wagering Program.
Racing continues Tuesday with another 16-race card going postward at 5:25 p.m. Monday’s nine qualifiers can be caught live on RTN via streaming services such as Roku, Amazon FireStick and online at rtn.tv. Free program pages are available on the Scioto Downs website for both qualifiers and all live racing cards.
The 91-day 2026 Scioto Downs race meet runs until Saturday, Sept. 19. Races will be held Tuesday-Saturday, with special holiday cards on Memorial Day and Labor Day instead of the Tuesday card that week.
