Favourites Cruise In Buffalo Opens

Big Baller Beane

Heavy favourites Marvellous Mac A and Big Baller Beane rolled to their second straight Open victories in the $21,233 co-featured events at Buffalo Raceway on Saturday, May 9.

Marvellous Mac A ($3.28) took the Open Pace with a solid one-length decision over Lanjo Lee. Lanjo Lee (Kyle Cummings) had to work hard to get to the lead, going three-wide before settling on top. With Marvellous Mac A (Drew Monti) tracking along in the pocket, Lanjo Lee put up fractions of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:26.2. But Marvellous Mac A tipped out of the pocket around the final turn and steadily pulled away from Lanjo Lee down the lane, tripping the timer in 1:55.1. Sweet Ideal (Ray Fisher Jr.) was third.

Owned by Vogel & Wags Nags LLC, Team Rice Racing LLC and Dr. Michael Miller, Marvellous Mac A is now three-for-eight on the year. The Maria Rice trainee, a seven-year-old son of Roll With Joe-Glee Bromac, has earned $120,447 in his career and won 15 of 70 starts.

Big Baller Beane ($2.54) left little doubt who was best in the Open Trot as he wired the field in a seasonal-best 1:57. Starting from the two post, Big Baller Beane (Kevin Cummings) cruised to the lead and put up splits of :29.1, :59 and 1:28.2, and the only one within shouting distance turning for home was pocket tripper Double Class (Ron Beback Jr.). Big Baller Beane confidently trotted away from Double Class down the stretch to register the easy win by two lengths. My One Percent (Kyle Cummings) collected the show cheque.

The victory was the fourth in six races on the year for Big Baller Beane, a six-year-old Father Patrick-Global Desire gelding. Trained by Angelo Nappo, he has also won three of his last four starts along with a second place finish for owners Kathy Schoeffel, Jim Reuther and Roger Romesser. The Saturday score increased his career totals to $329,798 in earnings and 20 victories from 103 appearances.

Brett MacDonald continued on a nice roll as he posted a driving triple while Fisher Jr., Monti and Kevin Cummings doubled on the 13-race card. Brandon Presto had two training victories.

Racing will return to Buffalo on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with a 13-race program set. There's an $614 carryover in the Pick 5, which begins in the second race.
