Eliminations Set For Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup
A pair of $35,000 eliminations for the Grade 2 Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup will be contested on Sunday, May 10 at Flamboro Downs.
Thirteen four-year-old pacers have been entered in Flamboro's signature event, with Prince Hal Hanover and Bruno No No No headlining the elimination fields. The top four finishers from each division plus one fifth-place finisher drawn by lot will advance to the $200,000 (added) final on Sunday, May 17.
Fresh off a successful season's debut in the Grade 3 Pacey Mindlin Invitational last weekend at Miami Valley Raceway, Prince Hal Hanover is the 7-5 morning line favourite in the first elimination, scheduled as race two on Sunday's 6:25 p.m. card. The speedy son of Captaintreacherous and former O'Brien Award winner Percy Bluechip has not raced at Flamboro before but was a 1:50.1 winner on a half-mile track in last year's Grade 2 Carl Milstein Memorial at Northfield Park. Todd McCarthy will be in town to drive the millionaire pacer for trainer Dr. Ian Moore and the Prince Hal Hanover Stable of Cambridge, Ont.
Bruno No No No, an emerging Open star from the David Menary stable, is the early 8-5 favourite from post three with Doug McNair listed to drive in the second elimination, which is scheduled as race four. The All Bets Off-Winbak Alice stallion will make his half-mile track debut after winning the New Holland Series and posting back-to-back sub-1:49 miles in a pair of Open events at Woodbine Mohawk Park, including a national season's record 1:48.1 score on April 11 and closing second behind last year's Juravinski Cup champ Calicojack Hanover on May 2. The former Ontario Sires Stakes Grassrooter now competes for Pollack Racing of Venetia, Pennsylvania.
Menary will have three contenders in the eliminations with Fifth And Five (James MacDonald) starting outside of Bruno No No No and Sugar Man (Louis-Philippe Roy) also drawing post four in the earlier division.
Trainer Ron Burke has a pair of highly-regarded entrants with Ohio Open invader Rick Wink starting from post four in the first elimination and millionaire Fallout getting the inside draw in the second split. Tim Tetrick is listed to drive both pacers.
The 2025 O'Brien Award divisional winner Crack Shot will take a shot at the Juravinski Cup but will have to overcome an outside draw from post seven in the second elimination. Louis-Philippe Roy will pick up the catch-drive for conditioner Gregg McNair after the trainer's son Doug drove him to a Kentucky stakes win in his May 4 season's debut at Oak Grove but opted for the favourite here.
