Road To The Meadowlands Pace - Week 2
Reigning Horse of the Year Beau Jangles continues to lead in the second edition of the "Road to the Meadowlands Pace" while Ubrute made the biggest advance, moving up three spots in the weekly Top 10 after a good-looking win last weekend at The Meadows.
Top-ranked Beau Jangles, who has a gaudy lifetime record of 12 wins from 12 starts, will hit the track for the first time this year at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, May 9 in eliminations for the SBOA Stakes.
"I guess I’m a little bit surprised that there are eliminations [for the SBOA event this Saturday at Mohawk]," said trainer Dr. Ian Moore. "I just figured there wouldn’t be.”
Is Moore feeling the pressure?
"The pressure is on. Last year, there was no added pressure at any time. As we approach the start of a new season, I think there is some pressure now to continue to do what he’s been doing. We are still very optimistic competing at this level."
Ubrute moved up to fifth in the weekly rankings after winning a Pennsylvania Stallion Series dash last Saturday, May 2 in 1:52.3. He will take this week off.
"He got around there and paced to the wire but I don’t think five-eighths tracks are his ultimate place," said trainer Ron Burke. "I raced him against the lower-caliber [Stallion Series] horses because I was trying to make it as easy as possible. I’ll get him on a seven-eighths [track] in Canada in the Somebeachsomewhere and North America Cup.”
The top 10 rankings are compiled by Meadowlands Racetrack's TV host Dave Little and are scheduled to be released every Thursday until the July 4 eliminations for the 50th edition of the Meadowlands Pace, which will be contested on July 11.
