On To Norway Extends Streak In Four-Year-Old Debut

On To Norway

On To Norway's streak stayed alive as the Indiana star made his first start at four and tallied his 24th consecutive victory in the $29,730 Open Handicap Trot on Saturday, May 2 at Harrah's Hoosier Park.

Starting from post four, On To Norway settled in fourth on the first turn as Ponda Jet (Peter Wrenn) pushed forward to take the lead at the quarter in :26.2. Ponda Jet led the six-horse field single file through the backstretch headwind, closely followed by his stablemate Operator (Marcus Miller) to the half in :57. John De Long right-lined On To Norway heading into the homeward turn, and the gelding advanced uncovered to three-quarters in 1:27.2. On To Norway hit top gear down the stretch and blew past Ponda Jet with a :25.4 blitz to the wire to get home a length clear in 1:53.2. Operator cashed in for second while Ponda Jet settled for third.

On To Norway won 23 straight races last season, sweeping the Indiana Sire Stakes and taking victories in the Carl Erskine and Phil Langley Memorial. The gelding is now undefeated in 23 starts for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable LLC, Frank Baldachino, Black And White Stable and Michael Rosenthal. The son of Muscle Massive-One Class Act has won 28 times in 34 career outings and has earned $933,304. He paid $3.20 to win.

Angel Hill, driven by Trace Tetrick for trainer Tyler George, took care of business in the $29,730 Fillies and Mares Open 1-2 Handicap Pace.

Angel Hill crossed over to the rail from post seven to take control of the field of eight at the quarter in :27 with stablemate Nase Vira A (Jordan Ross) and Rose Run Vision (LeWayne Miller) behind her. Angel Hill put up a :55.3 half and built up her lead to 2-1/2 lengths at three-quarters in 1:23.2. Favourite Tarshish (Marcus Miller) picked up steam from fifth to move up to third first-over but was unable to threaten Angel Hill, who cruised home to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:51.3. Tarshish claimed second with Nase Vira A finishing third.

Angel Hill, a six-year-old daughter of Racing Hill-Beach Party Hill, is owned by Thunder Racing Stables Inc. She is now three-for-seven on the season and 19-for-48 lifetime with $255,139 in earnings. The win price was $9.
