Sweet Valley Scores In Tioga Opening-Day Feature
Sweet Valley motored off cover to win the $14,864 conditioned trot feature on the opening-day card at Tioga Downs on Saturday, May 2.
Sweet Valley got away sixth for Mike Merton while Herodotus (Tyler Miller) led to the quarter in :27.1 before yielding to Rocket Man Hill (Braxten Boyd) on the way to the half in :56. Ramborain (Dan Daley) came first-up down the backstretch, pressing Rocket Man Hill to three-quarters in 1:25.4 with Sweet Valley second-over. Sweet Valley then came three-wide down the lane and blew by her cover to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:55.4. Ramborain finished second, with Doc Nixon (Ridge Warren) third.
Sweet Valley, a five-year-old mare by II Sogno Dream-Valley Makayla, is now 18-for-54 lifetime. She is owned by Capital Racing LLC and trained by Rob Harmon. She returned $15.56 in her first seasonal score in two tries.
Braxten Boyd had a driving hat trick on the 10-race card. Merton and Harmon teamed up for a pair of wins.
Live racing continues at Tioga Downs on Sunday with an 11-race card starting at 12:30 p.m. The track will host racing on a Friday-Saturday-Sunday schedule through August, with a Monday and Thursday date added in September.
