Lets N Joy N Wires Mohawk Open Mares Again; Fellows Triples

Lets N Joy N winning at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Lets N Joy N was a repeat wire-to-wire winner in the $40,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park, taking a new lifetime mark of 1:51.3 on Friday, May 1.

Driven by James MacDonald, the quick-leaving Lets N Joy N led all the way through splits of :26.2, :56.1 and 1:24.4 and kept a familiar closing rival at bay once again, besting Absolution (Trevor Henry) by three-quarters of a length in a :26.4 final quarter. A winner in their last matchup on April 18, Lets N Joy N was sent postward as the heavy 1-5 favourite in a short field of five and paid $2.50 to win. There was no place or show wagering.

Kiss N (Louis-Philippe Roy) rounded out the top three more than three lengths behind while Tells On A Roll (Travis Cullen) edged out the season-debuting Grit N Grace (Jody Jamieson) for fourth.

Lets N Joy N, now nine-for-11 this year, boosted her season's bankroll to $143,750 to become Canada's leading money-earning mare in 2026, putting her a few hundred bucks ahead of Angostura Hanover, who was scratched sick from Friday's Open. Jacques Dupont trains the four-year-old Bettors Delight-Rock N Joy mare, a Down Under import who has finished no worse than second since arriving in Canada, for owner Ecurie Csl of Sorel-Tracy, Que.

Dupont and Ecurie Csl doubled up during the 11-race card, also scoring with the popular imported Downbytheseaside mare Carrrera Sunset N in 1:53 with Billy Davis Jr. working out the winning pocket trip.

Kyle Fellows topped the trainers with three tallies, starting with wins by lightly raced three-year-old male pacers French Bulldog, who took a new mark of 1:54.4 with Tyler Borth in the bike, and Windsun Gunner, who broke his maiden in 1:54.2 in rein to Bob McClure. Madam X, claimed in back-to-back starts, completed the Fellows training triple with a 1:52.3 score for James MacDonald, who ended the night with a driving grand slam.

Fellows enjoyed a career-best $3 million campaign in 2025 and has already accumulated $862,055 in stable earnings this year to rank second among all trainers in Canada.

A Pop-Up Series for conditioned and optional claiming trotters continued on Friday night with the $14,000 divisions going to series newcomer The Bear A Cuda in 1:55.3 for driver J.R. Plante and trainer Gerard Demers and Patriarch Hanover in 1:56 for Doug and Gregg McNair. This series is for horses that raced for a purse of $10,000 or less in 2026 with winners over $75,000 in 2025-26 not eligible. Optional $12,500 claimers were also eligible. T
