A bridesmaid in her first two appearances of the season, 2025 O'Brien Award winner A Clean Deal clocked the fastest mile time of the 11-dash qualifying session at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, May 2 while scoring the first winning effort of her sophomore campaign.

With regular pilot Doug McNair at the controls, A Clean Deal sat third throug h the opening quarter as Chicanery (Travis Cullen) posted a :28.2 first split. McNair hit the accelerator down the backside and A Clean Deal cleared to the top through a :56.2 half. From there, A Clean Deal maintained her advantage through a 1:25 third station and closed in :28.1 to trip the timer in 1:53.1. Daya closed well for a motionless Jody Jamieson to finish second, 2-1/4 lengths back, with Chicanery just back in third.

A Clean Deal (Cattlewash - Ideal Talker) is trained by Kyle Fellows for owners Yolanda Fellows of Rockwood, Ont., Blair Corbeil of Leduc, Alta, Windermere Stable LLC of New York, N.Y. and Jim Ross of Wingham, Ont. The filly posted a stellar 6-0-1 summary from her seven rookie season appearances with $454,404 in purses en route to Canadian divisional honours.

Team Fellows also sent out the fastest trotter of the session, with sophomore Touchedbyanangel delivering a 1:56.2 effort to close out the card.

The trip here was similar, with McNair sitting in as Land The Plane (Jamieson) soared through a :29.3 first quarter. McNair made his move from the pocket approaching the half, and Touchedbyanangel cleared to the top as the midway mark was reached in :59.1. Touchedbyanangel then tripped the third timer in 1:28.2 before closing out the mile in :28 to best Land The Plane by nearly four lengths. Blue Jean Gal (James MacDonald) rallied to finish third.

A gelded son of Archangel-Rubys Are Nice, Touchedbyanangel sports two wins from 12 starts with more than $190,000 in earnings. Fellows trains for Yolanda Fellows, Blair Corbeil, Mike McAllister of Beaumont, Alta. and Peter Porter of Port Dover, Ont.

Both A Clean Deal and Touchedbyanangel are eligible to the WEG SBOA Stakes, with eliminations for those events on Friday, May 8 (fillies) and Saturday, May 9 (colts).
