Blood Money Favoured In Red Shores Preferred
The evening feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday, May 2 lines up as a competitive battle with the Preferred 2 Pace taking centre stage.
First race post time is 6 p.m. (ADT) with 12 races scheduled at the capital oval. A field of five will contest the $6,250 Preferred 2 event, carded as Race 11.
Blood Money is installed as the 5-2 morning line favourite from post five for driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Ron Matheson. The son of Sweet Lou rides a three-race win streak into the event for owner Dr. Mitchell Downey of New Brunswick, with the 10-year-old stallion pulling double duty in the stallion barn again this spring. The veteran pacer was a winner in 1:53.3 on opening day for the first free-legged win of his career.
Brigus has rail control for driver Adam Merner and trainer Nicholas Oakes. The son of Betterthancheddar was second in his seasonal debut and makes the climb to feature class company.
Nuttin But Finesse lines up from post two for driver Mike Downey, who was recently announced as the New Brunswick representative in the Atlantic Regional Driving Championship to be held June 23 at Red Shores Summerside. Downey steers the son of Art Major for trainer Ellen Stevenson after finishing second to Blood Money last week.
Captainofrocknroll (David Dowling) leaves from post three from the Jennifer Doyle stable along with stablemate Shake N Blake (Ken Murphy) from post four.
The Post Time Picks gives the edge to Blood Money despite the outside draw.
“Blood Money was large and in charge last week going right down the highway to kick off the spring meet. He draws an outside post [Saturday] but in a compact field like this it could be two in a row.”
The Race 12 finale has One Eight Hundred the favourite in the $4,350 affair for driver Barrieau, trainer Matheson and owner Dr. Downey from post three. The son of Somebeachsomewhere is standing his inaugural season at stud while racing this spring as he takes on seven foes including Fast Louie (Dowling) and Hunters Hero (Marc Campbell).
The harness racing community will form the traditional memorial horseshoe after race six in honour of longtime and respected horseman Len Walsh.
