Fringed Fires To Saratoga Open Score
Fringed made his return to the track a winning one in the $22,603 Winners Over/Open Handicap Trot at Saratoga Casino Hotel Monday, April 27.
Dan Daley trains and drives the five-year-old, who flashed early speed in his 2026 debut to take an immediate lead after the start. After trotting unopposed through first-half fractions of :27.2 and :57.1, Fringed was met with the challenge of odds-on favourite Platinum As (Aaron Byron), who got to within a length of the leader at three-quarters in 1:26.3. Fringed showed no signs of rust as he held strong late in the mile to secure a three-quarter-length victory in 1:56.2 and register his first career Open win at the Spa. Platinum As came up second-best while But Why (Jimmy Devaux), who came in off back-to-back wins in the Open, closed to finish third.
Fringed, a son of Crazy Wow-Jinx, is now 12-for-48 lifetime with $190,185 in earnings. The gelding races for owners Ann-Mari Daley of Astor, Florida, Oleg Ivutin of Marietta, Georgia and Bain Racing Stables of Hamilton, New York. He paid $14.64 to win in the mild upset.
Trainer Gary Levine earned three wins on the 13-race card. Icey Seaside ($7.46) romped in the fifth race to kick off the triple, and Full Scale ($19.06) and Altus Hanover ($3.58) went back-to-back for the trainer in pacesetting victories later in the day. The conditioner has tallied 29 wins in 210 starts this season.
Live harness racing continues on Tuesday at Saratoga with a matinee that starts at noon.
