Logan Park Strong In 2026 Debut; $1 Million For Monalishi
Logan Park, named Canada’s Older Trotting Horse of the Year for the third straight season in 2025, came out swinging to start his eight-year-old campaign as the gelding cruised to an open-length victory in the $40,000 Open Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Sunday, April 26.
Sent away as the 1-9 choice, Logan Park floated out of post five for Doug McNair, allowing Mr Bluebird (Travis Cullen) to take point early before motoring past him at the quarter in :27.1. Now on top, Logan Park went unpressured through the half in :56.3 and three-quarters in 1:25.3, and the gelding needed little encouragement from McNair to power clear by 2-1/4 lengths down the stretch and win in 1:52.4. Mr Bluebird was second, followed by Ghostly Casper (Mark MacDonald).
A winner of eight top-level events at Mohawk last year, Logan Park is one-for-one in 2026 for trainer Kyle Fellows. The eight-year-old son of Archangel-Rite Outa The Park won for the 45th time in 103 career starts and raised his earnings to $2,317,349. The 2024 FanDuel Championship winner is owned by Outofthepark Stable of Rockwood, Ont., Reg Higgs of Blenheim, Ont. and Arpad Szabo of Bradford, Ont. He returned $2.30 to win.
Monalishi, making her four-year-old debut, closed for second in a $22,000 conditioned trot to push her career earnings past $1 million. Tyler Borth slotted her in sixth heading to the quarter in :27.2, then guided her onto the third-over cover of Usain Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) at the half in :57. Usain Hanover moved three-high and bolted away on the last turn, rallying up to fourth at three-quarters in 1:25.2 and flying home to a 1:53 victory, while Monalishi rallied from fourth at the eighth pole to catch Willys Home Run (Doug McNair) for second.
Harness racing’s newest millionaire won the Peaceful Way Stakes at two and her Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final last year, and she has racked up 10 wins in 22 career starts. Blake MacIntosh conditions the Green Manalishi S-Pretty Phylly G mare and co-owns her with Tim Klemencic of Trenton, Ont. Monalishi, the 2024 recipient of the Two-Year-Old Trotting Filly O’Brien Award, has now earned $1,000,005.
Lamandier A upset in the $20,000 Pop-Up Series final, soaring home in line to Brett MacDonald to win in 1:52.2 for trainer Ron MacDonald at 36-1. The nine-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-Champagnedreams returned $74.90. The series was for pacers that started for a purse of $10,000 or less this year and have not earned more than $65,000 in 2025-2026, or were in for a claiming tag of $12,500.
