Bailey Sweeps Opens En Route To Five-Win Night

City Of Hope winning at Vernon Downs

Driver Leon Bailey won five of the 11 races at Vernon Downs on Friday, April 24, including a pair of $11,644 Open events.

Bailey kicked off his five-win night with Open trotter City Of Hope ($3.06) scoring in 1:55 in the fourth race for trainer David Dewhurst, who co-owns the six-year-old Mets Hall-Doing The City gelding with Phillip Hale of Utica, New York.

Bailey completed a sweep of the features in the seventh race, winning with Open pacing mare Huntressville A ($3.94) in 1:54. The seven-year-old Huntsville-Our Burning Desire mare is trained by Joe Skowyra for owners William and Sarah MacMillan of Glenwood, Maryland.

Bailey landed right back in the winner's circle driving back-to-back successful starters from the Michelle Warner stable, pacing mares Yo Jo ($2.90) and So Diva ($2.80), then later capped off the card in rein to the Tony Ciuffetelli-trained trotter Muscle Dan ($2.50).

Live harness racing continues at Vernon Downs on Saturday, April 25 with a post time of 5:05 p.m.
