Concise Perfect In Weiss Prelims

Concise

Concise became the lone trotting filly in the Bobby Weiss Series for three-year-olds to win in all three preliminary rounds, joining trotting male Confident Volo in sweeping a division, as she took her $23,973 split at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania on Tuesday, April 21.

Tim Tetrick got the daughter of Gimpanzee-Shes Gone Again to the lead just past the quarter and backed off the middle half, and the filly dashed home 1-1/4 lengths better than pocket-sitting Nightcap Mearas S (Andrew McCarthy) while equalling the mark she set in the middle prelim, 1:55.3. Arella Hanover (Jim Pantaleano) was third. Nik Drennan trains Concise, a winner of four of five lifetime starts, for Drennan Stables LLC, Joseph Davino, and Brad Shackman. The win price was $2.60).

The other two trots were won by the second and third choice in their races, though neither paid over $5.60. The Captain Corey-Ill Bring Dessert miss I Take The Cake ($5) was the fastest Weiss trotter Tuesday, brushing from fifth to the lead in a :27.1 second quarter, then defeating Chestnut Kelly (Tim Tetrick) by three-quarters of a length. George Napolitano Jr. gave his charge an aggressive drive and made it pay off for trainer Blake MacIntosh and Hutt Racing Stable as the filly broke her maiden in 1:54.4 in her ninth start. Be Mine Hanover (Mark Herschberger) was third.

The other diamondgaited dash went to the Chapter Seven-Oh My Goodness filly Aviatrix Blue Chip ($5.60), who overcame post eight and survived an inquiry to win back-to-back Weiss contests. Aviatrix Blue Chip, the 9-5 third choice, recorded a 1:56 clocking while winning by a half-length for driver Jason Bartlett, trainer Jared Bako and owner Blue Chip Bloodstock Inc. She is now two-for-nine lifetime. There was a rare double inquiry on the first two horses under the wire, with Aviatrix Blue Chip not faulted but Cynic (Tim Tetrick) dropped from second to third for a breaking violation and 8-5 favourite Kickan (Tyler Buter) upped to the deuce.

There were two divisions on the pace. The Bettors Wish-Treacherous Reign filly Miss Jum Jabber ($2.80), who skipped the second prelim, posted bookending wins, here in 1:52 with a back half in :57.2 and final quarter in :27. She B Minnie (Tim Tetrick) was 2-1/4 lengths back, followed by American Cheese (Jason Bartlett). Andrew McCarthy was in the sulky behind the heavy favourite, who is now three-for-four in her debut season for trainer Brett Pelling and owner Pelling Racing LLC.

The Sweet Lou-Stylish Beachwhere filly Sicerto ($14.20) took the other sidewheeling event, coming from fifth at the stretch call to catch chalk Vanna By The River (Braxten Boyd) by a neck while lowering her mark to 1:52.1. Jaimes Way (Tyler Buter) was third. Tim Tetrick matched his Weiss trotting score as he secured this pacing win for trainer Michael Hall and the owning partnership of CTC Stable, KDP Stable LLC, and Manklin Creek LLC. Sicerto progressed from a sixth to a third to victory across the Weiss prelims and has now won half of her six lifetime starts.

George Napolitano Jr. won three of the last four races on the 14-race card to end the day with four wins and sulky honours. The other Weiss-winning drivers had doubles: Jason Bartlett, Andrew McCarthy, and Tim Tetrick. Driver Braxten Boyd also had a two-bagger, as did trainer Brett Pelling.

The Weiss preliminaries are now finished. The three-year-olds will have $50,000 USD championships, plus whatever $20,000 USD consolations will fill, on the following schedule: pacing colts on the track’s next card, Saturday, trotting colts the following Monday, and fillies on both gaits the day after that.

Saturday’s card also features a $20,000 USD Weiss consolation, a $27,500 USD Winners Over Pace, and a carryover into the last-race High 5 wager. Post time for next week’s cards is 1 p.m. every day.
