Shoot The Whiskey Takes Preferred In Cullen Triple

Shoot The Whiskey

Shoot The Whiskey proved strong on the front as she won the $12,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap Pace for the third time in her last four starts as a part of a hat trick for trainer Jodie Cullen on Tuesday, April 21 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

Outside starters Settn A Precedent (Brady Galliers) and Blinded By Delight (Tyler Borth) charged as the wings folded but were unable to get the jump on Shoot The Whiskey, who fired out from post five and put them behind her on the first turn. Travis Cullen had her to the quarter in :27.4 and half in :57.1, and the mare had things her way past five-eighths and onto the backstretch. With Delta Sunrise (David Kelly) on the march, Cullen put Shoot The Whiskey to a drive heading to three-quarters in 1:25.4. She handily dealt with Delta Sunrise, and the closing Fated Fire (Robert Doyle) was too late as Shoot The Whisky crossed the line ahead by a length in 1:55.3. Ladyterra (Samuel Fillion) came from eighth on the final turn for third.

Shoot The Whiskey has won four of her six starts in the London Preferred this year and six of 15 overall in 2026. The seven-year-old Shadow Play-Arm In Arm Mare is owned by Travis Cullen of Dundas, Ont., Paul Sanders of Surrey, B.C. and J J J Stables of North Vancouver, B.C. She is now 39-for-160 lifetime with $471,117 in earnings. The win price was $3.10.

The top-class victory came in the middle of three consecutive wins for Jodie Cullen. She also won with Heavens Lil Dragon ($10.70) in the fourth race and Twin B Betonit ($2.70) in the sixth, both of whom were driven by Travis Cullen. The trainer, Canada’s leader in wins and earnings this year, upped her seasonal tally to 107 wins in 490 starts. She is second in the London standings, two back of Gerard Demers.
