Square Deal Strikes In Harrington Open

Square Deal, returning to Harrington Raceway for the first time this year following two starts in the Ursula McIntyre Pacing Series at Yonkers Raceway, was a 1:53.2 winner in the $30,822 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace on Tuesday, April 21.

The six-year-old Heston Blue Chip-Fourbyfour Hanover mare got away fifth for Tony Morgan, then made an impressive three-wide move to three-quarters and opened up on her rivals as she streaked home to win by by 4-3/4 lengths over Nite Time Deal (Art Stafford Jr.). Almost Persuaded (Russell Foster) was third. 

The win was the 25th in 83 career starts for Square Deal, who is trained by Will Reynolds for Mark Howard. The mare took her fourth win of the year in 10 outings as she returned to her home state after the two Yonkers starts. She paid $4.80 to win.

Deborah and Jamie Bozman’s Cindy Jo ($10, Russell Foster) was a 1:55.3 winner in the $24,658 Open II Pace for trainer Walter Bozman Jr. She scored by a length over Stevie Hanover (Montrell Teague) with Disturbed Hanover (Barton Dalious) third.

Ron Short’s Wiggle Babe ($93, Shane Griffith) pulled off a huge upset in the eighth race with a 1:58.3 triumph for his first career win at 45-1.

Live racing will continue on a Monday-through-Wednesday schedule with post time at 4:30 p.m.
