Chakra Crushes In Plainridge Feature

Chakra

The centres of energy were aligned for Chakra as she romped in the $17,808 conditioned pacing headliner at Plainridge Park on Tuesday, April 21 and took her first win since 2024.

Sent off at 1-9, Chakra (Matty Athearn) went right to the front and never looked back. With Perfect Smile Gb (Nick Graffam) sitting second, Chakra went through fractions of :27.3, :57 and 1:25.1, as only Delightville Diva (Cory Stratton) made any headway from behind. Chakra continued to increase her lead as she rounded the last turn and rolled home a dominant winner by 6-1/4 lengths in 1:54. Delightville Diva took second over Perfect Smile Gb.

Chakra ($2.10) is owned by her trainer, Mark Eaton, in partnership with Robert Griffin. The daughter of Lather Up-Holy Trinity is now three-for-25 lifetime.

In the $16,438 TrackMaster 79 pace later on the card, Gabe Hanover (Jay Randall) got away seventh and watched as Ranaldi (Drew Monti) and Odds On Lauderdale (Nick Graffam) battled through early fractions of :26.4 and :55.3. As the field entered the backstretch, Odds On Lauderdale faded, Clearwater Courage (Kevin Switzer Jr.) pulled from third to advance to second, and Gabe Hanover was activated from the back of the pack and flew into contention. Ranaldi was still in front as they turned for home, but Gabe Hanover blasted home on the outside to prevail by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:53.3. Clearwater Courage finished second over Hey Jude Hanover (Bruce Ranger).

Gabe Hanover ($25.40) is owned by Bradford Veilleux and trained by James Dunn. The six-year-old Captaintreacherous-Good Will Hanover gelding won for the 14th time in 86 lifetime appearances.

The win was one of three posted by Randall on the 10-race card. He also won with Wichita Lineman ($31.20), which was the first half of a Dunn training double, and South Street Dottie ($7.40). Athearn had a driving triple during the day as he won with Quite Beachy ($36.40) and Lyons Shining ($6.40) in addition to Chakra.

Mike Graffam had two wins on the conditioning side, tying him with Dunn for top daily honours in that category.

Racing resumes at Plainridge Park on Thursday at 4 p.m. There will be a $8,977 carryover in the Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta wager in the sixth race.
