Encryption Swoops Late In Plainridge Co-Feature

Encryption

Encryption circled his four opponents in the last eighth of a mile to win the faster of two $18,055 conditioned features for five-year-old-and-under pacers at Plainridge Park on Tuesday, April 14, posting a lifetime mark in the process.

Encryption (Bruce Ranger) got away last behind a contested pace. Show Respect (Matty Athearn) had the point first heading to the quarter in :27.3 before Montana Gb (Kevin Switzer Jr.) took control en route to the half in :55.3. But before reaching that station, Chakra (Brad Irvine) swooped to the lead as they turned onto the backstretch. Montana Gb then made his way back to the top before three-quarters in 1:23.4.

At that point, Encryption was still last, but Ranger put him in play on the last turn. He moved him three-wide around horses, and once clear in the lane, Encryption bolted past the entire field to move ahead at the line by 1-1/4 lengths and win in 1:52.4 with a snappy :27.4 closing panel. Montana Gb was second, followed by Show Respect.

Encryption, a three-year-old son of Papi Rob Hanover-Code In, improved to three-for-six lifetime for owner Capital Racing LLC and trainer Rob Harmon. He paid $12.20 to win.

In the co-feature for fillies and mares, Ladysassin made her first start of the year a winning one.

Ladysassin (Matty Athearn) grabbed the lead off the gate before releasing the parked-out One Eyed Delilah (Drew Monti) to the front as they passed the :27.1 quarter. But Athearn was right back at it with Ladyassasin, who reclaimed control in front of the stands and stepped to the half in :57 and three-quarters in 1:25.4. None of her rivals had any answers as Ladysassin cruised home on top by 4-1/2 lengths and won in 1:54. Perfect Smile Gb (Kevin Switzer Jr.) took second, followed by Its Noras Time (Mitchell Cushing).

Ladysassin is owned by her trainer Mike Eaton, in partnership with Robert Griffin. The sophomore Perfect Sting-Dream Chaser filly is now three-for-12 lifetime. Her win price was $3.

Ladysassin was one of four wins for Athearn on the nine-race card, including a natural hat trick in races four, five and six with Odds On King Cobra ($19.60), Flying Finn N ($27.60) and Whata Foolbelieves ($5), respectively.

Racing resumes at Plainridge on Thursday at 4 p.m.
